Physical Description
The Blooded Skull Orcs are massive humanoids with skin the color of sun-bleached basalt and cooling ash. Standing up to nine feet tall, their bodies are constructed of dense muscle and heavy bone. Their faces are dominated by large, flared nostrils that constantly filter the air and eyes of a solid, milky white hue. These eyes lack pupils and iris, giving them an unsettling appearance to outsiders. Their skin is a map of their history: ritual scars are carved into their chests and arms to signify every trial overcome and every enemy defeated. Their movement is deceptively fluid for their size, resembling the prowl of a great desert predator.
Society & Culture
Society is centered around the caravan and the kill. They are a meritocratic culture where status is literally etched into the skin. Young orcs spend their adolescence learning the nuances of the 'Scent-Song,' the complex array of odors that define the Desertstone. Leadership is held by the Skald-Chiefs, warriors who can recite the history of every scar on their body. They value truth above all, largely because their sensitive noses make it nearly impossible for one of their own to lie without the pheromonal shift betraying them. Community bonds are forged through shared ritual scarring ceremonies after successful hunts or battles.
Religion & Alignment
They follow a primal, ancestral animism, believing that the spirits of the Great Sand-Wyrms and ancient orc warriors reside in the thermal winds. They are rarely concerned with abstract concepts of good or evil, tending toward Neutral alignments. Their morality is tied to the survival of the tribe and the honoring of the blood-pact. They view the desert not as a foe, but as a testing ground that weeds out the unworthy.
Homelands & Architecture
The Desertstone is a vast expanse of shifting dunes and jagged rocky plateaus. The Blooded Skull Orcs do not build permanent structures. Instead, they reside in massive tents made of thick lizard-hide and reinforced with the ribs of prehistoric beasts. Their camps are designed to be broken down in minutes, allowing them to follow the migration of game or the path of seasonal storms. When they do build, it is usually stone cairns to mark water sources or the graves of champions.
Relationships With Other Peoples
They are wary of 'scent-blind' races like humans and elves, often viewing them as fragile or deceptive. However, they possess a deep respect for those who survive the Desertstone on its own terms. They maintain a tense but functional trade relationship with mountain-dwelling goblin-kin, exchanging rare desert salts for worked metal. To a Blooded Skull Orc, a person is only as good as the strength of their scent and the depth of their scars.
