L'Éperon Brisé
L'Éperon Brisé was built to serve mounted couriers and horse traders who once used this stretch of the river road. Its sign recalls a broken spur found in the mud during construction, though the old trade has dwindled and the building now draws mariners, tanners, artisans, and off-duty militia. The current keeper, Gros Barnabé, served as a militia sergeant before losing the use of his left arm.

Overview
History
L'Éperon Brisé was built to serve mounted couriers and horse traders who once used this stretch of the river road. Its sign recalls a broken spur found in the mud during construction, though the old trade has dwindled and the building now draws mariners, tanners, artisans, and off-duty militia. The current keeper, Gros Barnabé, served as a militia sergeant before losing the use of his left arm.
Quirks
The warped sign outside depicts a twisted, rusted riding spur and squeals in the wind. The windows are small, with opaque bottle glass and heavy shutters to keep in warmth. Conversations sink to murmurs whenever someone approaches the curtained alcoves. Barnabé's old militia shield leans beside the counter as a warning that he still remembers how to keep order.
Rooms and services5
- Salle communeCommon roomTables of scarred oak fill the smoky main room. A broad iron brazier hangs over the center, giving off more heat than comfort. Sawdust on the floor soaks up river mud and the occasional bloodstain.
- Alcôves de l'OmbrePrivate meeting spaceThree curtained recesses at the back offer a measure of privacy, though voices carry through the grimy wool. Regulars know not to stare when Vassa meets visitors here.
- Chambre verrouilléePrivate roomA narrow, bolt-barred room with two plain beds and a washbasin. The shutters are thick, but the room still smells faintly of the nearby tanneries.
- Écurie couverteStableA covered lean-to beside the building holds a few stalls for mules and workhorses. The straw is clean enough, and the stable hand keeps a lantern lit through the night.
- Table de désGamblingA battered board near the hearth hosts low-stakes dice games. Barnabé stops play if a quarrel threatens to become a knife fight.

Intrigue
What locals say
La Ville Basse lies between muddy river quays and the tanneries. The air carries the smells of stale beer, burning peat, smoked fish, and sweat. L'Éperon Brisé is a custom location in a generic fantasy setting, not a reference to a specific canonical city or faction. Its patrons include ordinary laborers and a few people with enough experience to make trouble for an inexperienced party, but most dangers here begin with rumors, petty crime, or a tense conversation rather than a lethal fight.
