The Pale Accord - AI-generated fantasy World

The Pale Accord

World

The Pale Accord

Every wound closes; every debt leaves a mark.

Overview

The Pale Accord is a broken world of inhabited shards bound by cables, trade, and one desperate bargain. The Patron's blood-red Vigil mends wounds and quiets grief, keeping factories and families working while slowly changing its users. The gods have fallen silent, so no cure comes without a price. Masked people navigate smoky streets and perilous rifts as the Distillery Combine, church, hunters, and rebels contest who will pay when Hollowmass renews the debt.

The world

ShapeA fractured continent of drifting land-shards suspended around a vast, mist-filled abyss, held in rough relation by cables, anchors, and trade routes.
What it is likeThe world is a chain of inhabited landmasses broken from a once-continuous continent. Some shards hang above a cloud-choked abyss, others drift through it on slow, uneven courses. Their exposed undersides bear the old world's strata, while their upper surfaces hold crowded cities, factory belts, farms, and the scars of the breaking. The largest shard, called the Hearth, anchors the network. Smaller settlements depend on it for trade, medicine, and the Patron's blood-red Vigil, whose healing keeps the population working even as it alters those who rely on it. Between the shards lie unstable rifts where distance bends and lost fragments sometimes surface. No map stays reliable for long.
How people travelTravel between nearby shards by cable car, lift cage, or narrow suspension bridge. Longer crossings use tethered barges and engine winches that haul vessels through the fog, following signal lamps and changing cable marks. Routes can sag, snap, or lead into a rift when the shards shift. Unmoored fragments and rift passages offer dangerous shortcuts, while the Hearth's docks and cable stations serve as the main hubs for passage, supplies, and tolls.

Laws of the world

The rules

MagicMagic remains common, but healing and resurrection have no divine source; arcane cures, Vigil, and pacts all exact a cost, and broken contracts leave visible brands of debt.
TechnologyIndustrial works, steam engines, rail winches, gas lamps, and alchemical equipment shape daily life, alongside widespread high magic.
Death and soulsThe silent gods offer no healing or return from death; revival requires Vigil or a binding pact, and the dead may be claimed by the Patron if their debts remain unpaid.

Special rules

Vigil heals wounds and dulls grief, but repeated use transforms the drinker, especially beneath the blood moon.
Everyone wears a mask to hide their face from the Patron's agents; contracts bind their signers until paid or renegotiated.

The skies

SkiesThe shards hang in a soot-stained night beneath an oversized moon; factory smoke and red auroras often hide the stars.

  • The great moon, whose phases stir the transformed
  • The dim sun, absent during the Long Harvest
