Moradin's Blow
Moradin's Blow is a broad forge complex built into one wall of Moradinar's great fissure. Its waterwheels are driven by a vast fall of sand, sending power through shafts and gears to the smithies, grinders, and repair benches. A railed gallery lets visitors watch the work, while lifts nearby carry materials between the surface and the lower quarters. Dwarven reliefs cover the rock around the workshops, their faces softened by centuries of windblown grit.

Overview
Moradin's Blow is a broad forge complex built into one wall of Moradinar's great fissure. Its waterwheels are driven by a vast fall of sand, sending power through shafts and gears to the smithies, grinders, and repair benches. A railed gallery lets visitors watch the work, while lifts nearby carry materials between the surface and the lower quarters. Dwarven reliefs cover the rock around the workshops, their faces softened by centuries of windblown grit.
Atmosphere
A steady thunder of falling sand and turning wheels fills the galleries. Warm drafts carry grit through the air, and sunlight catches the sand in brief glittering sheets. The walls seem to murmur when the wind rises from the depths.
Style
Dwarven engineering cut directly into the fissure wall, with squared galleries, iron-braced platforms, carved relief panels, and heavy timber lift frames. The building's forge rooms are built around the sandfall's wheel channels.
What stands out
History
The workshops were built after a hammer-shaped stone spur was cut from the fissure wall to make room for the first wheel channel. The laborers called the spur Moradin's Blow, and the name stayed with the forge that replaced it. Over generations, the complex expanded along the wall, following the sandfall and the growing network of lifts.
- Forge and Wheelworks
The main forge line uses the sandfall to turn broad waterwheels, which drive bellows, hammers, and grinding stones. Smiths take commissions for tools, fittings, and heavy repair work; delicate pieces are finished at smaller hearths away from the grit. The forge takes its name from a massive stone spur that once jutted into the fissure. Workers called the spur Moradin's Blow for its hammer-shaped face before they cut it away to make room for the wheelworks.
- Lifts and Access
A counterweight lift carries ore, charcoal, and finished goods between the upper artisan quarter and the lower workshops. Its operator checks the cables and stone weights before every run, and travelers wait behind a waist-high rail while cargo is loaded. The narrow hand lifts nearby are for foot traffic and small parcels, not carts.
- Workshop Customs
The master smith assigns forge space and settles disputes over fuel, tools, and delivery times. New workers must demonstrate safe handling of the wheel-driven hammers before using the main line. Visitors may watch from the railed gallery, but the work floor is closed during heavy forging.
People
4 peopleMaster smith and proprietorBatu Practical, blunt, and proud of sound work. He treats workers fairly, expects visitors to respect the hazards, and dislikes wasting good metal.
Master smith and proprietorBatu A broad-shouldered dwarf with a soot-dark beard and a precise eye for uneven work. He is fair about commissions but impatient with anyone who ignores safety rules.
Lift keeperShessha A quiet dwarf with a soft voice and a habit of listening to the lift cables before allowing a load to move. She knows the counterweights and platforms better than anyone in the workshop.
Stonecarver and relief restorerAruun A young dwarf whose open manner contrasts with his cautious approach to the old carvings. He repairs damaged reliefs and keeps notes on details that workers have worn away.
