Atmosphere
Busy but orderly. Boots scrape across the entry stones, someone is usually mending gear near the hearth, and fresh notices draw a crowd at breakfast. The guild encourages good humor, but its members grow quiet when a contract concerns missing people.
Style
Sturdy local stonework with timber-framed upper walls, a steep slate roof, and a single round stone turret rising above the rear corner. The construction is practical rather than grand, with broad stairs and reinforced doors suited to frequent use.
What stands out
History
The hall began as a roadside weigh house serving quarry carts. After the quarry road became unsafe, local escorts and monster hunters pooled their coin to buy the building and establish a guild. The split boulder outside was already a landmark, and locals soon began calling the place Split Rock Hall. Its owners expanded the old structure without replacing its stout foundations.
- Membership
Applicants need a sponsor who has completed at least one contract, must pass a practical test, and swear to the guild's rules on civilian safety, honest accounting, and sharing discoveries. Members pay modest dues or contribute labor. The guild accepts adventurers of any background, but keeps a probationary roster for newcomers.
- Open Contracts
A slate board in the common room lists three current jobs: escorting a surveyor to a collapsed watchpost, clearing stirges from a mill loft, and finding a missing herb gatherer last seen near the old quarry. The guildmaster verifies each claim before assigning it. Rewards range from 25 to 150 gp, with the more dangerous work requiring a full party.
- Courtyard and Stable
The stable has four stalls, a tack closet, and a lean-to for a cart. It can shelter two riding horses and a pair of pack animals comfortably. The courtyard is enclosed by a waist-high stone wall and a locked gate; members use it for drills, gear checks, and loading supplies.
- Dwarven Shrine
A small stone niche beside the hearth holds a hammer, a chipped anvil-stone, and a clay lamp. Dwarven members tend it in the mornings, offering quiet thanks to Moradin before a journey. Visitors may leave a tool or a pinch of coal, but the shrine is not used for public services.

Registrar and contract keeperMikel A human clerk with ink-stained fingers who can recall the details of most local contracts. He is patient with new members and stubborn about keeping accurate records.
Field scoutZgrit A half-orc scout with a clipped manner and a keen eye for tracks. She maintains the road reports and will warn a party when a job sounds worse than its posted description.
