Rain-Rattle Room
The Rain-Rattle Room is a medium-sized classroom in the remains of an old schoolhouse. Its bare stone walls are stained by rain, and splintered roof beams jut down over a floor buried in masonry. The room has no furnishings or surviving teaching materials. A narrow arched recess at the east end is the only feature that suggests what the space once was.

Overview
The Rain-Rattle Room is a medium-sized classroom in the remains of an old schoolhouse. Its bare stone walls are stained by rain, and splintered roof beams jut down over a floor buried in masonry. The room has no furnishings or surviving teaching materials. A narrow arched recess at the east end is the only feature that suggests what the space once was.
Atmosphere
Cold and airless, with the smell of wet mortar and old dust. Water ticks from a roof crack into a shallow puddle. The room is so quiet that a boot scraping over rubble sounds like a shout.
Style
A plain medieval stone schoolroom, with a high timber roof, narrow windows, and a shallow arched recess for the instructor. The roof beams and much of the interior stonework have collapsed.
What stands out
History
The schoolhouse served a small settlement until a violent collapse brought down part of its roof and eastern wall. The classroom was left open to the weather, and years of rain loosened the remaining beams and mortar. Locals call it the Rain-Rattle Room for the tapping sound made by water striking the loose stonework.
- What Remains of the Classroom
The room once held lessons for a dozen pupils, but nothing usable remains: no desks, benches, books, slates, or writing. The teaching space is now a scatter of splintered boards and rubble. Anyone searching can find a few snapped chair legs and a rusted buckle, but no readable marks or school records.
- The Teaching Recess
A cracked arch at the east end leads to a narrow recess where the teacher once stood. The recess is half-blocked by fallen stone, and its floor gives a hollow thud near the back wall. A careful search finds a hand-sized gap beneath the rubble, large enough to pass a small object through.
- Hazards for Adventurers
Loose stones and fractured floorboards make the center of the room difficult terrain. A creature that moves more than half its speed across the debris must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone. A loud impact or spell with a thunderous report may dislodge rubble from the east wall, creating a 10-foot-wide patch of difficult terrain.
