Banner of the Last Dawn

The Banner of the Last Dawn is a Thane archetype devoted to turning fear into formation and defeat into opportunity. These war-leaders do not merely command from the rear; they stand where the line is weakest, speak when hope is failing, and make every ally feel that one more step is possible. Their Command Dice become a shared reserve of courage, their banner creates openings for allies to act beyond their normal turns, and their greatest victories often begin after the battle appears lost.

None; the Banner of the Last Dawn uses martial command, morale, positioning, and shared Command Dice rather than spells.

Multiclassing

A character multiclassing into Banner of the Last Dawn gains the Thane class's normal armor, weapon, and shield proficiencies only if the base class grants them under the campaign's multiclassing rules. The archetype relies on Command Dice, a strong Constitution, and allies who can capitalize on movement and reaction-based commands.

Proficiencies

No additional proficiencies. Banner of the Last Dawn training focuses on battlefield oratory, standard tactics, emergency medicine, formation drills, and reading the morale of a unit.

Skill Options

Choose from the Thane's available skill proficiencies, prioritizing Athletics, History, Insight, Intimidation, Medicine, and Persuasion.

Training & Initiation

An apprentice serves in several roles before receiving a banner: shield-bearer, standard guard, quartermaster, and battlefield speaker. Initiation requires leading a mixed group through a dangerous exercise while protecting the weakest member and preserving the group's trust. The apprentice is then given a banner with no official insignia and must earn the right to place a symbol upon it.

Societal Perception

Common people often regard these thanes as living promises that someone will stand with them when authorities fail. Nobles may value their victories while fearing their influence over ordinary soldiers. Veterans tend to trust them quickly, but many Banner leaders are treated with solemn respect because their greatest reputation is often earned during disasters.
