Its story
What it looks like
A waist-high ring of black iron ribs surrounds a suspended crystal spindle.
Threads of pale gold light stretch from the spindle to the fortress walls, tightening whenever a creature moves nearby. The floor beneath it is polished smooth, except for dark handprints pressed into the stone.
Why it is here
To drain vitality from creatures fighting near the bastion and convert it into power for Vhaelon's defenses.
Who made it
Vhaelon, with the aid of an unknown artisan whose runes predate the bastion
Lore
The siphon was designed to feed the bastion's wards by drawing vitality from anyone fighting within its reach.
Vhaelon has since tuned it to favor his own forces, though the mechanism cannot distinguish allies from enemies when its pulse is interrupted. The oldest runes describe it as a 'temporary tributary' rather than a weapon.
Where it is found
Vhaelon's Bastion, in the central siphon chamber or the adjoining battle hall where its conduits cross the battlefield
