The False Chest’s Forgotten Pockets
When the mimic’s disguise finally slumps into a shapeless heap, a few small belongings slide free from its sticky mass.
The tale
When the mimic’s disguise finally slumps into a shapeless heap, a few small belongings slide free from its sticky mass. They look like the ordinary odds and ends of someone who mistook the creature for a chest: a cellar key, a purse, a shopping list, and a battered buckle. Nothing suggests the mimic carried or guarded these items deliberately.
