Vent-Glass Colossus
Cleared-Vent Wardens call these guardians stone elders and treat them as neighbors, a custom born from respect and practical experience. Their bodies form around centuries of mineral deposition, while their heat-fed pulses echo the chimney beneath them. Drilling crews that mistake their stillness for lifelessness may discover the truth only when the rig begins to crack.

Notes for the game master
Tactics
Opening
It rises from the chimney when drilling, tapping, or other direct damage disturbs the vent. It first blocks the approach, then strikes the nearest intruder or fires Shard Volley through a clustered crew.
Mid-fight
Use its reach and Glass-Fist to pressure nearby intruders, while Shard Volley punishes parties that bunch together. It does not pursue far from the chimney unless the vent itself remains threatened.
End of the fight
As it nears defeat, it protects the vent’s throat and uses Shard Volley against the largest cluster it can catch. Its death burst makes surrounding allies and enemies alike reconsider staying close.
Retreat
The colossus does not flee while its chimney is under attack. If drilling stops, the rig is withdrawn, and the vent is unblocked, it returns to a motionless guarding posture after about ten minutes.

Ecology
A thirty-foot giant of stacked black and amber glass, each slab cut into sharp facets. Heat glows beneath its surface in slow, rhythmic pulses, and its heavy feet seem fused to the chimney’s mineral crust. Its movement rings like a struck bell beneath the hiss of steam.
Behavior
Patient and territorial rather than predatory. It regards damage to its thermal chimney as an immediate threat, but otherwise does not seek out creatures. Its inner glow follows the vent’s pulse, and its posture shifts before each heavy blow.
How it lives
The colossus requires no food, drawing heat through its feet from the vent that formed it. It is rare, appearing only where mineral deposits have fused into glass over centuries of intense geothermal activity. Its existence ties its territory to a living source of heat.
Lair
Its lair is the thermal chimney it grew from, usually a vent crowned by mineral shelves, rising steam, and a drilling platform or salvage rig. The colossus can sense disturbance through the crust around its feet.
- Habitat
- Geothermal chimneys, vent fields, and pressure-heavy reaches of the Abyssal Trench, especially where long-running plumes have fused mineral deposits into glass.

What drives it
Protect the thermal chimney and preserve the flow of heat that sustains it.
After the fight
When its final slabs fall, the chimney exhales a rush of hot mineral steam. The fallen glass cools into amber-black fragments, while the vent’s pulse may steady, falter, or become dangerously irregular depending on the damage done to its throat.
