Seln Ardo
Seln Ardo was once the annex's senior registrar, tasked with preserving a sealed record whose contents were meant to remain unknown. When the annex flooded, Seln Ardo refused to abandon the registry. The flood took the clerk, but the duty remained. Now Seln Ardo guards the records and seems to recognize people whose names appear in its ledgers, even if they have never visited the annex.

Tactics
Opening
Seln Ardo begins among the toppled shelves, presenting itself as a tired records clerk. If the party approaches the raised platform or touches a sealed ledger, it uses Strike from the Index against the apparent leader.
Mid-fight
Use Bind in Red Tape to pin down a clustered group, then punish a trapped or isolated target with Quillknife. Keep moving between shelves and water lanes, forcing the party to spend movement reaching the platform.
End of the fight
When reduced below 20 hit points, Seln Ardo uses Flooded Aisle to disrupt pursuit, then retreats toward the raised platform or the nearest dark aisle. It fights to preserve the sealed registry, not to die for it.
Retreat
Seln Ardo bargains if offered a name, a written confession, or assurance that the registry will remain intact. If cornered and below 10 hit points, it attempts to escape through a narrow shelf aisle, abandoning its keys if necessary.

Ecology
A lean, meticulously dressed figure in a clerk's coat, its hem submerged and its sleeves dark with water. Its face resembles a damp sheet of parchment: features appear briefly when it speaks, then rearrange into the likeness of someone nearby. A ring of iron keys hangs from its belt, and thin strips of written paper trail from its fingers like pale tendons.
Behavior
Precise, courteous, and unnervingly procedural. Seln Ardo corrects people who misstate their names and asks intruders to sign a register before attacking. It avoids unnecessary violence, but treats damage to records as a grave offense.
How it lives
Seln Ardo does not eat or sleep. It is sustained by the records entrusted to its care and by the names written in them. It can persist for years in a flooded archive, repeating its duties until the collection is destroyed or its charge is fulfilled.
Lair
The half-flooded records annex known as the Registry Approach. Its narrow walkways, waist-high water, toppled shelves, and single raised stone platform are all familiar to Seln Ardo.
- Habitat
- Flooded archives, civic records halls, submerged courts, and abandoned bureaucratic buildings.

What drives it
Preserve the sealed registry and ensure that every person named in it is correctly identified.
After the fight
When Seln Ardo is defeated, its borrowed face blurs and the water fills with drifting names. The records it protected remain legible only if someone retrieves them before the ink dissolves. A character who speaks Seln Ardo's full name aloud can calm its lingering spirit for a moment, allowing a final question or apology.
“When the annex flooded, Seln Ardo refused to abandon the registry.”
