Appearance
Daro is a compact, severe woman whose stillness feels more deliberate than natural. Her skin has the dry, warm brown tone of walnut bark, and the fine lines around her mouth deepen when she listens rather than speaks. Her hands are broad, square-nailed, and permanently darkened beneath the nails by herbal dyes. She moves with a patient, grounded gait, placing each foot as though testing ice. The unexpected softness is her hair, which is thick, silver-gray, and usually braided with red thread, spilling like wool when unbound. Within a minute of meeting her, people notice that she breathes through her nose in slow, audible counts. When rattled, the counting breaks into shallow clicks, and she begins rubbing the red thread around her braid until it frays.
“Measured and low, with clipped phrases and careful pauses. She sounds like someone sorting evidence aloud.”

Distinguishing Features
A silver-gray braid bound with red thread, with the thread always slightly frayed by the end of a stressful day.
Her breathing is audible in deliberate counts and becomes a series of small clicks when she is frightened or angry.
Her fingertips are stained nearly black from root dyes, despite her repeated efforts to clean them.
She carries a wax tablet and records exact phrases spoken during negotiations.
She smiles only when someone presents an answer that disproves her own theory.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry rasp at the edges. Her breathing is normally slow and audible. Under pressure, the breath catches into tiny clicking sounds before she regains control.”
Clothing
A charcoal wool coat fastened with bone toggles, layered over a russet linen tunic and a wide woven sash carrying herb packets. Her boots are soft-soled and dusted with pale northern clay. A narrow red cord circles her left wrist, and a small iron seal of the Enclave hangs beneath her collar rather than over it.
Body Language
Daro keeps her elbows close and her weight evenly distributed. She rarely points, preferring to place objects or people exactly where she wants them. During tense conversations, her thumb checks the knot of red thread in her braid. When truly frightened, she stops blinking for several seconds and counts her breaths against her wrist.
