Appearance
Jorek is a broad-shouldered man with the weathered, compact strength of someone who has hauled wet rope, stubborn cargo, and frightened passengers for decades. A fresh red scrape bleeds beneath his chin, though he never explains how it happened. His face is square and wind-chapped, with a flattened nose, deep creases beside his mouth, and one missing lower canine that shows when he speaks. His hands are scarred and permanently darkened around the nails by river tar. He moves with a boatman's rolling balance even on solid ground, swaying almost imperceptibly as though listening for the current beneath his boots. The unexpected softness is in his eyes, which are pale and patient, and in the tiny embroidered moth sewn inside his collar, a keepsake from his dead daughter. He leaves behind the impression of a mooring post in a storm: blunt, battered, and impossible to move.
“Low, clipped, and deliberate. Jorek speaks as if every sentence must survive being shouted across rain and rushing water.”

Distinguishing Features
A perpetually bleeding scrape beneath his chin.
A missing lower canine and a faint white scar crossing his left eyebrow.
A brass ferry token worn on a cord around his wrist.
Tar-blackened fingernails and palms scarred by rope burns.
A tiny blue moth embroidered inside his coat collar.
Voice
“A gravelly baritone with a wet rasp beneath it, as though every word has passed through cold river mist. When angry, he becomes quieter instead of louder.”
Clothing
A faded charcoal river coat patched with sailcloth, a sleeveless wool vest, mud-stiff trousers, cracked waterproof boots, and a red scarf tied twice around his neck. His belt carries rope, a folding knife, willow bark, and a brass ferry token.
Body Language
Jorek keeps his weight low and balanced, one hand often resting near his spear or boat hook. He tilts his head toward distant sounds, rubs the bleeding scrape beneath his chin when lying, and stands between strangers and the water without seeming to notice he is doing it.
