Sir Fergal Vaelwyn
Paladin
Sir Fergal Vaelwyn
Species
Mercian Human
Appearance
Sir Fergal is a broad-shouldered Mercian human who looks carved from storm-worn chapel stone and then reluctantly taught to smile. His mail is polished to a mirror sheen, but the polish never quite hides the scratches, dried wax, and old blood tucked into the seams. He moves with a cheerful, rolling stride, as if walking to a feast rather than a brawl, and when anger takes him his whole body seems to tighten like a drawn bow. The most memorable contradiction is his face: a warm, boyish grin framed by a scar that pulls one corner of his mouth upward into a permanently half-merry, half-menacing expression.
“Booming and melodious in public, with the rhythm of a chapel sermon, but it turns oddly intimate and confessional after battle. He peppers his speech with saintly oaths, theatrical pauses, and sudden self-corrections when he realizes he has drifted into threats.”

Distinguishing Features
A jagged scar that makes his grin look permanently too broad
Prayer beads fused partly into the leather grip of his sword
A small brass saint medallion with one side blackened by fire
Knuckles repeatedly broken and healed crooked from years of overcommitted punches
A surprisingly delicate lace handkerchief tucked into his gauntlet, which he uses only after violence
Voice
“Bright, resonant, and theatrical, with a preacher's cadence and a soldier's breath control”
Clothing
A scarlet church tabard over chain mail, white gloves stained at the fingertips, a black leather belt with devotional charms, and a battered cloak lined in faded gold thread. He keeps one polished ceremonial boot and one practical riding boot, claiming the mismatch makes him faster.
Body Language
Open-chested and expansive in friendly moments, but rigid and predatory once aroused. He points with his whole sword arm, laughs with his head thrown back, and during anger his jaw locks so hard the muscles stand out like cords.
