Jespera Rusk
Ranger
Jespera Rusk
Species
Elf
Appearance
Jespera looks built for crossing ground that does not want to be crossed. She moves with a low, measured glide, placing each foot as if the earth has already told her where it will hold. In a crowded room she occupies surprisingly little space, yet people keep finding themselves making room for her without knowing why. Her hands are broad-knuckled and work-worn, more like a carpenter's than an archer's, and she keeps her bowstring waxed with beeswax scented faintly of cloves. The unexpected thing is her softness: she has a round, almost homely face and a habit of smiling at frightened animals, which clashes with the cold precision of her aim. Her eyes rarely rest on faces. They track exits, hanging lamps, loose floorboards, and the hands of anyone speaking too quickly.
“Low and matter-of-fact, with a dry rasp from years of speaking over wind. She pauses before names, as if deciding whether the person has earned the full sound of them.”

Distinguishing Features
Her left hand is always slightly stained with green bow wax, no matter how often she scrubs it.
She has a habit of looking past a speaker toward the nearest exit, making even friendly attention feel like an assessment.
Her footsteps are nearly silent on wood, but her equipment gives off a faint, deliberate click because she refuses to wrap every buckle in cloth.
She wears a child's red mitten tied to the inside of her coat, visible only when she reaches for an arrow.
She smiles warmly at animals while watching people with guarded, measuring attention.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry edge, gentle when speaking to frightened people and almost flat when issuing a warning.”
Clothing
A faded moss-green wool coat cut short for movement, layered over a quilted russet vest. Her trousers are patched with mismatched gray cloth, and soft leather gaiters are wrapped tightly above mud-stained boots. A strip of blue thread is tied around her left wrist, renewed each spring.
Body Language
Jespera stands with her weight slightly forward, as though already moving toward the next piece of cover. She angles her shoulders away from crowds but turns one ear toward every conversation. When angry, she becomes very still and folds her hands over her bow rather than gesturing.
