Species

Appearance
Brother Caldus Reed is a lean, weather-bent man whose narrow frame seems assembled from rope, driftwood, and stubbornness. His white-streaked hair lies flat on one side and lifts in restless wisps on the other, even indoors. His face is long and deeply lined, with salt gathered in the creases beside his mouth. Both hands bear pale tide scars, branching from the wrists across the palms like frozen rivulets. He walks with a slight limp, yet moves with startling speed whenever someone approaches the shrine in danger. His expression is usually gentle, but his eyes become cold and measuring when he hears a lie. The unexpected softness of his appearance is contradicted by his hands, which are strong enough to haul a soaked sailor from a sinking boat.
“His voice is low, rough, and measured, with the rhythm of a bell heard through rain. He pauses before names, especially the names of the dead.”

Distinguishing Features
Branching tide scars across both palms
A brass windwheel pendant with one missing spoke
A silver tooth visible when he smiles
A limp that disappears during storms
A faint smell of wet stone and crushed fennel around him
Voice
“A low coastal baritone, cracked by age but steady as a hand on a helm. His words carry the damp resonance of a bell tower during rain.”
Clothing
A dark blue wool cassock patched with sailcloth, a salt-stiffened gray cloak, tarred leather boots, and a braided cord bearing a small bronze windwheel. His cuffs are sewn with pale thread taken from old fishing nets.
Body Language
Caldus keeps his shoulders rounded and his hands folded until danger appears. Then his spine straightens, his scarred fingers spread, and he plants his feet as though bracing against a wave. He often tilts his head toward distant sounds before answering, as if listening to a wind nobody else can hear.
