Mara Venn
Rogue 7, Blackfin Enforcer
Mara Venn
Species
Human
Appearance
Mara is a lean, weather-battered human woman with a narrow face and shoulders trained into stillness. Her skin carries the pale bronze tone of someone who has spent years beneath hard sun and salt glare, while old rope burns ladder both forearms in raised, glossy ridges. She moves like a ship correcting itself in rough water, every step measured, every turn economical. Her black hair is cut to the jaw and threaded with premature silver, usually damp at the ends even when the air is dry. A small scar splits her lower lip, giving her resting expression the look of a permanent reprimand. She smells faintly of tar, fennel, and seawater. The unexpected softness is in her hands, which are careful and almost tender when repairing a torn sail or dressing an injured sailor.
“Her voice is low, clipped, and remarkably clear over wind and surf. She pronounces names carefully, as though placing them in a ledger.”

Distinguishing Features
A split scar through the lower lip.
Rope-burn ridges circling both forearms.
A red scarf patched with mismatched uniform thread.
A left ear pierced with a small brass fishhook.
Her eyes remain fixed on the speaker's hands rather than their face.
Voice
“A low contralto with a rasp of brine in it, steady enough to make panic feel embarrassing. She speaks softly when issuing orders, forcing people to lean closer.”
Clothing
A dark blue wool coat reinforced with tarred canvas at the shoulders, a sleeveless leather jerkin, salt-stiff trousers, soft deck boots, and a red scarf worn twice around her throat. The scarf belonged to her younger brother and is patched with thread from three different uniforms.
Body Language
Mara stands with her weight balanced over the balls of her feet, one hand near a blade and the other often resting on a coil of rope. She rarely nods. Instead, she gives small downward movements of the chin, as if pinning a decision in place. When frightened, she becomes unnaturally still. When grief breaks through her control, she rubs the scar on her lip until it shines red.
