Appearance
Nalia is a slim, wiry young woman who leans slightly forward even when standing still, as if every conversation might become a sudden climb or ambush. Her warm brown, wind-chapped skin is freckled across the nose and upper cheeks. Uneven black hair hangs to her shoulders, hacked short with a knife and usually falling across one side of her mouth. When she smiles, which is rare but sincere, slightly crowded front teeth show through. Her deep brown eyes hold amber flecks, but the memorable thing is where they go: never directly to the speaker for long, always checking hands, exits, rooflines, and the feet of anyone nearby. She moves lightly on the balls of her feet, with a guarded, almost dancer-like balance. The unexpected contradiction is that her hands are extraordinarily gentle. She handles injured animals, old paper, and frightened children with the care of a jeweler, despite carrying herself like someone prepared to break a knee.
“Her voice is low and practical, with a highland cadence that makes simple statements sound like weather reports. She speaks carefully around strangers, but her humor appears in sudden dry remarks.”

Distinguishing Features
A rawhide round shield dominates her silhouette, iron-rimmed and decorated with a faded red spiral made from overlapping nail heads.
Her hair is visibly knife-hacked rather than professionally cut, with one uneven lock often covering the corner of her mouth.
Every patch on her clothing uses a contrasting color and has been sewn with remarkable precision.
She looks at people's boots before their faces, judging where they have walked and whether they are ready to run.
Her left glove is absurdly well cared for, brushed clean and conditioned despite the rest of her gear being visibly road-worn.
Voice
“Low, husky, and restrained, with the rasp of cold air in it. Her laugh is brief, surprised, and warmer than anyone expects.”
Clothing
A dented patched chain shirt rests over a faded rust-red tunic. She wears torn charcoal trousers, wrapped wool leggings, cracked leather boots, and a gray cloak fastened with a bone toggle. Every repair is neat and deliberately visible, made with contrasting ochre, red, or pale thread. Her left glove is soft and carefully mended, while the right is stiff with old wax and road grit.
Body Language
Nalia keeps her shield arm angled slightly toward whoever seems most vulnerable. Her weight rests on the balls of her feet, and she rarely turns her back fully on anyone. When relaxed, she folds scraps of cloth into tiny squares. When angry, she becomes very still, with her chin lowered and her eyes fixed on the other person's hands.
