Nalia Stonecut

Nalia Stonecut
Species
Human
Appearance
Nalia looks less like a tavernkeeper than a compact stone pillar that learned to walk. Her movements are economical, quiet, and startlingly fast, with none of the wasted sway common to people who spend their days carrying barrels. She has broad shoulders, powerful forearms, and a deliberate habit of standing just close enough that strangers feel the warmth of her presence. A ring of old brass keys hangs from her belt, but one key is enormous, blackened, and worn smooth at the bow from constant handling. Her apron is clean at the chest and permanently darkened around the pockets by flour, lamp oil, and spilled gravy. The unexpected contradiction is her hands: thick-knuckled and callused, yet capable of arranging flower petals in a neat little cup beside every table before opening. People remember the faint scent of rosemary, iron, and rain that follows her through the room.
“Low, clear, and unhurried. Nalia rarely raises her voice, because she has learned that people listen harder when they must lean closer.”

Distinguishing Features
An oversized black quarry key hangs at her belt, its bow polished nearly silver where her thumb constantly rubs it.
She carries herself with the controlled stillness of a soldier, but arranges small cups of fresh flowers on every table.
Her left sleeve is always rolled exactly one fold higher than the right.
She takes up more conversational space than physical space, making quiet eye contact until people reveal what they meant to hide.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry rasp at the edges, steady enough to calm frightened children and sharp enough to stop a room mid-conversation.”
Clothing
A charcoal linen shirt with rolled sleeves, a russet waistcoat reinforced with hidden leather panels, a dark green work apron, wool trousers, thick socks, and soft-soled boots. Her brass key ring and enormous black quarry key are always visible.
Body Language
Nalia plants both feet before difficult conversations and rarely turns her back on anyone. When relaxed, she leans one elbow on the bar and tilts her head as if listening for a distant pickaxe. When threatened, she becomes perfectly still except for her thumb rubbing the worn black key at her belt.
