Hadrun Seshari

Hadrun Seshari
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
Hadrun is a broad, compact dwarf with the dense posture of someone built around an anvil rather than merely standing beside one. His movements are economical until danger appears, when he becomes startlingly quick, turning his whole body like a counterweight. He wears a soot-darkened leather apron over a faded blue wool coat, and a small brass bell hangs from the apron cord. The bell is nearly silent because its clapper has been wrapped in red thread, yet Hadrun touches it whenever he lies. His beard is carefully forked at the chin but left rough everywhere else, as if he trims only the part he can see without a mirror. The unexpected contradiction is his hands: they are enormous, callused, and scarred by work, but he handles delicate objects with the gentleness of a jeweler. Within a minute of meeting him, people notice that his breath whistles softly through his nose when calm, then becomes almost noiseless when he is frightened.
“His voice is low, dry, and rough-edged, with sibilants that stretch slightly when he is tired. He speaks in short, sturdy sentences and pauses before emotional words.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass bell hangs from his apron, its clapper wrapped in red thread and its lower rim polished bright by years of his thumb rubbing it.
His beard is forked only at the chin, while the rest remains deliberately rough and smoke-stained.
His breathing whistles softly through his nose when relaxed, but becomes nearly silent when frightened.
His left wrist bears a line of tiny punched dots, one for each worker he failed to bring home from the collapse.
Voice
“A deep, smoky baritone with a dry rasp, softened by careful pauses. His sibilants carry a faint breathy hiss, and his voice becomes almost gentle when speaking to apprentices or the families of the dead.”
Clothing
Soot-dark leather apron, faded blue wool coat, iron-toed boots, copper bracers, fingerless gloves, and a brass bell tied at the waist with red thread
Body Language
He plants his feet as if expecting the floor to shift. During conversation he studies hands, tools, and door hinges more than faces. When rattled, one thumb rubs the worn red thread around his bell until the thread frays.
