Appearance
Pell Rusk is a narrow, sharp-featured man with the weathered complexion of someone raised beside saltwater and stone. His olive-brown skin is stippled with pale scars from old rope burns, while his black hair is combed flat and tied at the nape with a copper inventory seal. His fingers are short, deft, and perpetually stained with ink, lampblack, and fish oil. He moves with a cautious, birdlike precision, placing each foot as though the floor might accuse him of trespass. His clothes hang from him in tidy layers, yet his left shoulder is visibly higher than the right from an old injury. The unexpected contradiction is his smile, warm, almost grandfatherly, which appears whenever he is lying most successfully.
“Pell speaks in a careful coastal common tongue, clipped at the ends of sentences and threaded with old caravan terms. He uses precise quantities in place of emotional emphasis.”

Distinguishing Features
A copper inventory seal is braided into his hair.
His left shoulder sits higher than his right from a crushed collarbone.
He has a habit of rubbing a square of blue chalk between thumb and forefinger.
His fingernails are always clean except for a dark crescent beneath the left thumbnail.
A small scar crosses his lower lip, splitting his smile into a permanent half-smirk.
Voice
“A dry, courteous tenor with a faint rasp, like paper dragged over a knife edge. His laugh is quick and surprisingly musical, but it stops the moment anyone looks directly at him.”
Clothing
A dark teal wool coat reinforced inside with stitched leather panels, a high-collared linen shirt, salt-stiff trousers, soft-soled boots, and a belt carrying six labeled pouches. Every buckle is polished, but each pocket contains a different kind of dust from Pell's hidden stores.
Body Language
Pell keeps his elbows tucked close and his hands busy. He smooths papers, adjusts cuffs, taps his thumb against his forefinger, and angles his body toward the nearest exit. When he believes he has won, his shoulders loosen by a fraction and his smile arrives before his eyes.
