Level 5·Male·Medium
Chaotic Good

Species

Elf

Appearance

Rusk is a slim, weather-browned elf with a sailor's balance and a face that seems perpetually turned toward the next storm. His skin carries a warm bronze cast beneath a scatter of pale salt freckles, and his dark copper hair hangs in loose, rain-curled strands to his jaw. One pointed ear bears three tiny brass rings, each dulled by seawater. His hands are narrow but heavily callused, with rope burns crossing the palms like old red script. He moves with an easy rolling gait on land and becomes startlingly still aboard ship, as though listening through the soles of his feet. His expression is wary and young, yet his eyes have the exhausted patience of someone much older. The unexpected softness of his appearance is contradicted by the hard, almost military precision with which he ties knots, checks weapons, and watches doors.

Height5 feet 8 inches
BuildLean and wiry, built for climbing rigging, swimming in cold water, and enduring long watches rather than for overpowering an opponent
EyesSea-green with amber flecks, quick to narrow when he hears a lie
HairDark copper, sun-faded at the ends and usually tied with blue cord
SkinWarm bronze, weathered by sun and salt, with pale freckles across his nose and shoulders

Rusk speaks in a low, careful voice that carries over wind and surf without sounding loud. His words are practical, often arranged around distances, tides, and escape routes.”

Distinguishing Features

Three small brass rings in his left ear, each engraved with a different tide mark

Rope-burn scars crossing both palms

A pale crescent scar beneath his lower lip from a snapped rigging hook

A habit of tasting seawater from his thumb before making a difficult decision

A family boatmaker's mark, two joined waves, tattooed behind his right shoulder

Voice

A weathered tenor with a soft coastal lilt, usually controlled, occasionally breaking into a rough whisper when guilt catches him unprepared.

Clothing

A faded blue wool sailor's coat patched with sailcloth, a loose cream shirt, tar-dark trousers tucked into soft deck boots, and a red sash containing fishing hooks, lockpicks, and lengths of waxed cord. His coat smells of brine, cedar smoke, and old rain.

Body Language

Rusk leans subtly toward exits and keeps one shoulder angled toward open water. His fingers worry at a brass ear ring when he lies, while his left hand unconsciously forms sailing knots against his thigh. Shame makes him fold inward, but any threat to a child, a vessel, or a trapped stranger draws him upright with sudden, trembling resolve.
