Borka Vezhni
Commoner
Borka Vezhni
Species
Halfling
Appearance
Borka is a compact halfling woman with flour permanently worked into the fine lines of her hands and the creases around her mouth. She has a broad, expressive jaw and slightly prominent front teeth that show whenever she bites into something or laughs, giving her grin a mischievous, rabbitlike brightness. She stands with her weight balanced on the balls of her feet, as if waiting for a dropped spoon, a fleeing thief, or a tray pulled from an oven. Her movements are quick but oddly quiet, with sudden pauses that make it seem as though she has briefly become a porcelain figurine. She smells of browned butter, woodsmoke, anise, and the faint metallic tang of hidden lockpicks. The contradictory detail is her immaculate white apron, which remains spotless even after a chaotic day of kneading, brawling, and throwing flour.
“Quick, musical, and full of sharp little pauses. Borka speaks with a friendly village cadence colored by caravan slang, often lowering her voice to a conspiratorial murmur at the end of an ordinary sentence.”

Distinguishing Features
Prominent front teeth and a wide jaw that make every bite and laugh unusually visible.
A perfectly clean white apron that never seems to collect flour, ash, or blood.
She balances on the balls of her feet even while standing still.
Her left thumbnail is stained deep blue from a rare plum filling used to mark secret messages.
Her laughter begins as a silent open-mouthed grin before erupting into three sharp delighted barks.
Voice
“A warm contralto with a smoky edge, capable of becoming a delighted squeak, a stern whisper, or a terrifyingly calm customer-service tone.”
Clothing
A spotless cream apron over a plum-colored wool dress, striped stockings, soft leather shoes, and a red kerchief tied low at the back of her head. Her apron pockets contain sugar packets, a tiny whisk, chalk, three buttons, and more lockpicks than any baker should own.
Body Language
Borka waits on the balls of her feet with one heel slightly lifted, rocking as though listening for a distant oven timer. She leans close when someone lies, tilts her head when someone surprises her, and taps her rolling pin twice against her palm before making a decision. When genuinely angry, she becomes perfectly still and smiles without showing her teeth.
