Appearance
Merrin Vale is a tall, rangy human clown who moves like a marionette with one cut string at a time, all jerky pauses and sudden stillness. His face is painted in cracked layers of white and corpse-pink greasepaint, but the paint is never fully dry, so it smears into the lines of his smile and around his eyes like old blood under rain. He wears a bright patchwork suit that should look festive, yet every color has been muted by road grime, soot, and something dark that may once have been wine. His left shoe is larger than the right and clicks like a wooden pestle, while the right boot is neat, polished, and elegant, as if he stole it from a gentleman's corpse. The most unsettling thing about him is the tiny silver prayer charm stitched inside his collar, a contradiction of devotion on a face built for mockery.
“Soft, theatrical, and lightly sing-song when calm, but abruptly clipped and intimate when threatened.”

Distinguishing Features
Cracked white greasepaint that never fully leaves his face
A faint burn scar shaped like a crescent beneath the left eye
A silver prayer charm hidden inside the collar
One polished boot and one oversized wooden clown shoe
A laugh that sounds too cheerful even when he is alone
Voice
“A smiling, gravel-soft tenor with a habit of ending sentences on a tiny, cheerful laugh that never reaches his eyes”
Clothing
A road-worn patchwork clown suit in faded reds, soot blacks, and jaundiced yellows, layered over a linen shirt, with stained gloves, one polished boot, one oversized shoe, a stitched satchel of props, and a collar hidden with a silver prayer charm
Body Language
His shoulders hunch when he listens, then spring open too fast when he decides to act. He points with two fingers like a stage magician, and his smile is usually held too long, as though he is waiting for someone offstage to laugh.
