Vaelen Brass-Crest
Paladin 14, Oath of the Scaled Aegis
Vaelen Brass-Crest
Species
Half-Dragon, Brass Draconic Ancestry
Appearance
Vaelen is a broad-shouldered half-dragon whose burnished brass scales catch the light like old coins beneath furnace soot. Cinder-markings have been pressed into several scales along his forearms and collar, not painted but heat-darkened into the metal by years of ritual armor fitting. His movements are economical and strangely quiet for someone in full plate. He turns his head before his eyes, measuring exits, rooflines, hands, and shadows before acknowledging a face. He smells faintly of hot iron, lamp oil, and bitter orange peel, because he chews dried citrus rind before every patrol. The unexpected softness of that scent clings to his severe presence. His expression rarely changes, but the tips of his horns twitch whenever someone lies.
“Low, precise, and controlled, with each sentence delivered like an order meant to survive noise. His Draconic consonants click against his teeth, while his Common carries the dry resonance of a bell struck in a stone corridor.”

Two short swept-back horns with tiny brass bells wired beneath their bases
A habit of smelling the air before speaking to anyone newly admitted into a room
A square tower shield engraved with the names of every guard who died under his command

Body Language
Vaelen stands with his shield angled toward the nearest approach, even during polite conversation. His chin remains slightly lowered, and his eyes travel constantly through the room in a fixed order: ceiling, hands, doors, floor, faces. When someone earns his trust, he turns his whole body toward them, an unusually intimate gesture for him.
