Pip Ash-Scraper
Rogue 7, Inquisitive
Pip Ash-Scraper
Species
Cinderclaw
Appearance
Pip Ash-Scraper is a compact cinderclaw with dark ochre scales that fade to soot-brown along his spine. His jaw is broad and slightly overbuilt, giving his small head a wedge-like silhouette, and his lower teeth protrude in two neat rows whenever he smiles. He moves with quick, economical certainty, placing each claw exactly where he intends, yet his careful hands tremble visibly when someone mishandles a book. His scales carry a permanent dry sheen from years in heated vaults, while the skin around his wrists is pale, cracked, and soft from constant contact with preservation oils. He smells faintly of brass polish, old paper, and volcanic dust. The unexpected softness of his voice makes his sudden bursts of furious precision more startling.
“Quiet, rapid, and precise, with a soft rasp beneath each word. Pip rarely uses contractions when discussing evidence, but his grammar becomes unexpectedly informal when speaking about family.”

Distinguishing Features
His lower teeth form two unusually orderly ridges that show whenever he laughs or eats.
Brass dust permanently darkens the scales around his fingertips.
A thin line of pale scales circles his throat like a collar, a birth trait considered lucky among some cinderclaw families.
His left shoulder harness carries nine tiny numbered tags, each marking a case he failed to prevent.
He writes with both hands, alternating whenever one claw becomes tired.
Voice
“A low, papery rasp softened by careful diction, like a clerk reading a confession beside a furnace.”
Clothing
A heavy black leather harness crosses his chest and is hung with brass magnifying loupes, cipher cylinders, wax tablets, skeleton keys, thread spools, and numbered evidence tags. He wears a smoke-gray archival coat cut short for climbing, reinforced leggings, fingerless gloves, and soft-soled furnace boots.
Body Language
Pip keeps his elbows close and his head slightly tilted, as if every sound is a coded transmission. His claws hover over objects before touching them. When relaxed, he chews the inside of one cheek and lets the tips of his teeth show. When frightened, he becomes perfectly still except for the rapid tapping of one rear claw.
