Species
Tiefling
Appearance
Varkhesh Qozrani is an immense elderly tiefling whose age appears most clearly in the deliberate pauses between movements, not in weakness. He has the physique of a retired siege engine: barrel-chested, thick through the shoulders, and corded with impossible muscle beneath leathery skin. His horns sweep backward in layered, ridged arcs like blackened ram horns, each ridge packed with tiny brass pins bearing the names of commissions he accepted but never completed. He walks with a slow, heel-first tread that makes floorboards complain, yet his hands move with startling delicacy when working metal. Before he speaks, he draws air through his teeth in a long furnace-like hiss. His beard is braided with red copper wire, but a single neat strand of white hair is always tucked behind his left horn. He smells of hot iron, cardamom oil, rain-soaked stone, and faint ozone. The unexpected contradiction is his smile: when genuinely pleased, this gigantic, intimidating smith smiles with the shy embarrassment of a child caught stealing sweets.
“His voice is a low, resonant rasp with the cadence of a careful lecturer. He takes a long furnace-like breath before important statements, pronounces names with exact precision, and occasionally lets a word ring out like struck metal.”

Distinguishing Features
His backward-sweeping black horns are inset with brass commission pins.
His enormous hands have fingertips permanently stained blue-green from alchemical copper salts.
He makes a furnace-like hiss before speaking.
His tail is unusually thick and ends in a flattened, hammer-shaped barb.
He carries six tiny iron birds that perch on his shoulders and whisper when nearby magic is unstable.
Voice
“A deep forge-bell rumble with a dry rasp underneath, softened by unexpected courtesy. Before difficult truths, he inhales through his teeth, producing a sound like air entering a chimney.”
Clothing
A sleeveless charcoal work coat reinforced with overlapping bronze plates, a soot-dark linen shirt, heavy red trousers tucked into iron-shod boots, and a leather apron stamped with hundreds of tiny maker's marks. His belts hold tools instead of weapons, though every tool is enchanted enough to become one.
Body Language
He stands unnervingly still while listening, with both hands folded over the head of his hammer. When challenged, his tail coils around his ankle rather than lashing. During moments of tenderness, he lowers his horns and turns his body slightly sideways, making himself seem less enormous.
