Species

Appearance
A lean, weathered man with a long-backed posture that makes him look taller whenever danger approaches. He waits with his weight balanced on the balls of his feet, never quite standing still, while his left thumb rubs the rim of his shield in slow circles. His movements are economical and drilled, but his hands shake visibly when the dead rise. He has a narrow, thoughtful face, a flattened lower lip, and a small silver thistle pin fixed upside down beneath his collar. The contradiction is immediate: he looks built for endurance and command, yet when civilians cry out, he moves with startling gentleness, almost like a tired nurse entering a sickroom.
“His voice is low, dry, and controlled, with the clipped rhythm of formal patrol orders. Fear makes him more precise rather than louder.”

Distinguishing Features
His purple tabard is fastened with the thistle pin upside down, a private memorial to guards who died during the outbreak.
He never sits with his back to a doorway, even in a friendly tavern.
His shield bears three shallow cuts arranged like a little staircase, made by a zombie that nearly dragged him down.
He carries a bell clapper wrapped in cloth, recovered from the warning tower after the evacuation began.
His hands tremble before violence, but become perfectly steady the instant he gives an order.
Voice
“Low, restrained, and dry, with the cadence of a man reading names from a casualty ledger.”
Clothing
A battered chain shirt beneath a purplish tabard bearing a thistle with two leaves and the emblem of Grim Tistel. His boots are road-stained, his gloves are patched with brown thread, and a strip of white cloth is tied around his left wrist as a mourning band for the dead of his squad.
Body Language
He keeps one shoulder angled toward danger and stands with his shield slightly forward even during conversation. His thumb circles the shield rim when anxious. When someone mentions a dead guard by name, his posture softens and he briefly lowers his head.
