Krech
Watch Captain
Krech
Species
Half-orc
Appearance
Krech is a broad, weather-hardened half-orc whose presence fills a doorway before he says a word. His skin is olive-gray and roughened by salt wind, sun glare, and years spent handling rope, iron, and splintered timber. A thick black beard is braided into three uneven cords, each stiff with sea salt, and the longest braid is clasped with a broken brass buckle whose missing half was never replaced. His lower tusks push visibly over his lip, polished bright where they have rubbed against his pipe and cup. He eats with startling delicacy, cutting meat into tiny pieces with a watchman’s belt knife, but laughs with his whole jaw open, showing a smile that is unexpectedly gentle. He walks with a slow, rolling balance like a sailor on a deck, yet can become motionless in an instant. The contradictory impression is unmistakable: Krech looks built to break down a gate, but handles cups, children, and frightened animals with painstaking care.
“Low, measured, and economical. Krech rarely raises his voice; instead, he makes important words slower and quieter.”

Distinguishing Features
A three-part braided beard fastened with a broken brass buckle.
Lower tusks polished smooth from years of habitual chewing on a pipe stem and leather cord.
A copper coin rolling continuously across his knuckles whenever the founder is mentioned.
Hands roughened white at the fingertips by salt and lye, with nails kept unusually clean.
A calm, almost tender smile that sharply contrasts with his intimidating size and tusks.
Voice
“A deep baritone roughened by salt air, with a surprisingly careful warmth when speaking to frightened people”
Clothing
A sleeveless dark-blue watch coat stiffened with waxed canvas, a faded red sash marking his rank, salt-stained trousers tucked into high leather boots, iron wrist guards, and a hooded oilskin mantle for storms. His coat is carefully patched rather than replaced, with every patch sewn in a different color of thread.
Body Language
Krech keeps his shoulders square and his feet planted as if expecting the ground to shift. His thumb is almost always moving over the edge of a copper coin. When suspicious, he tilts his head slightly and exposes one lower tusk. When genuinely amused, he covers his mouth with one huge hand as though embarrassed by the sound of his own laughter.
