Captain Orren Marrik

Captain Orren Marrik
Species
Copper Dragonborn
Appearance
Captain Orren Marrik is a heavily built copper dragonborn whose burnished scales have been dulled to the color of old coins by desert grit, sun, and wind. His scales are broad and finely ridged across the shoulders, with pale green oxidation gathering at the joints of his fingers and around the base of his horns. He moves with the controlled economy of someone accustomed to narrow battlements, never wasting a step and never turning his back fully on an open doorway. His armor is battered but meticulously maintained, while his long copper beard is braided with tiny brass gate keys and trimmed with almost vain precision. The unexpected contradiction is that the grimmest soldier in the garrison smells faintly of orange peel and rosewater, a private grooming habit he refuses to explain.
“Low, rough, and economical, with a dry rasp like boots over gravel. Orren speaks quickly when issuing battlefield orders and slowly when someone is trying to deceive him.”

Distinguishing Features
His copper scales are visibly weathered, with pale green oxidation at the finger joints and horn bases.
His meticulously braided copper beard is threaded with tiny brass gate keys.
He carries a chipped piece of acoustic warning stone and touches it whenever he must make a difficult choice.
His armor bears dozens of shallow service dents, each left unrepaired as a record of the soldier or civilian protected during that incident.
Despite his harsh military presence, he always smells faintly of orange peel and rosewater.
Voice
“A gravelly baritone with a faint metallic resonance, as if every word passes through a bronze bell before leaving his throat.”
Clothing
Fire-tempered terracotta plate armor covered in service dints, rubbed dull rather than polished, over a sand-colored quilted underlayer. A scarred leather baldric carries his broadsword. His red captain's sash is faded at the edges, and his gloves are reinforced with copper wire. He keeps a chipped piece of acoustic warning stone in one pocket and a folded kitchen ledger in the other.
Body Language
Orren stands squarely, with his hands folded over the pommel of his sword or tucked behind his back. He leans closer when someone lies, tilts his head when hearing an unfamiliar claim, and rubs the chipped warning stone in his pocket when weighing a dangerous decision. Around soldiers he often sits on crates or stair steps to avoid towering over them. Around nobles he becomes rigidly motionless.
