Appearance
Morwenna is a lean, weather-hardened woman whose body seems built from rope, driftwood, and old scars. Her deep salt-tan skin is crosshatched by fine white lines from windburn, climbing accidents, and years of flying grit. Her hazel eyes are sharp and nearly unblinking, with pale gold flecks that catch the light like fish scales. Thick iron-gray hair is braided tightly against coastal gales, yet one short braid always escapes and taps against her cheek when she is angry. She moves with a measured, rocking gait, as though the ground beneath her is still a deck in heavy swell. Her hands are broad-knuckled and permanently rough, with blackened nails and a missing tip on her left little finger. The unexpected impression is that, beneath her severe watchfulness, she has an almost delicate smile that appears whenever she hears someone singing badly.
“Her voice is low, dry, and roughened by years of shouting across wind. She clips unnecessary words from sentences and occasionally whistles a note to demonstrate a signal.”

Distinguishing Features
A short braid repeatedly taps her cheek in strong wind.
The tip of her left little finger is missing.
Her brass spyglass bears seven concentric rings of hand-engraved tide marks.
She has a pale scar around her throat from a snapped climbing line.
She smells faintly of lamp oil, wet rope, and crushed fennel.
Voice
“A low contralto rasp, like wet rope pulled across a wooden cleat, capable of carrying over surf without becoming a shout.”
Clothing
A heavy salt-stiffened oilskin coat hangs over reinforced leather ranger gear. The coat is patched with sailcloth in three colors, each marking a different watch station. She wears sturdy climbing boots, fingerless wool gloves, a weather hood, and a belt crowded with chalk, cord, signal flares, tide tablets, and brass measuring tools.
Body Language
Morwenna stands with her feet angled as if braced against a deck, keeps her shoulders square to doors and windows, and uses her spyglass like a pointer when making accusations. When genuinely frightened, she becomes perfectly still.
