Appearance
Phillip is a narrow, weather-folded man with the loose balance of someone walking on a deck that is always gently moving. His skin is brown and deeply textured by highland sun, cold rain, smoke, and years spent kneeling in wet soil. His hands are surprisingly elegant, with blunt clean nails stained permanently amber from mushroom work. He moves slowly until he does not, sometimes crossing a room in one sudden, birdlike glide. He smells of damp wool, crushed herbs, candle soot, and sweet rot. The unexpected thing about him is his immaculate posture: even when babbling, hallucinating, or asleep in a tavern chair, he sits like a courtier awaiting judgment.
“His normal speech is breathy, sibilant, and softly rhythmic, with long pauses that make listeners wonder whether he has forgotten the sentence or is waiting for someone unseen to answer. His accent carries faint highland syllables and rounded trade-road vowels.”

Distinguishing Features
His breath smells faintly of anise and wet stone, especially when he is excited.
A small white mushroom grows from the seam of his hat and is always fresh, even after days of travel.
His fingertips are permanently amber-stained from years of handling spores and fermented tinctures.
He knows the birthdays of nearly everyone in three provinces, including people who insist they have never met him.
When he laughs, a tiny puff of golden dust escapes from his nose.
Voice
“A papery, intimate voice that often drops to a whisper at the end of a sentence. His breathing is usually shallow and fragrant with herbs, but when rattled he takes one enormous breath and speaks in a resonant, commanding register that sounds decades younger.”
Clothing
A patched indigo wool coat fastened with mismatched brass buttons, layered over a saffron shirt and a faded woven sash. His trousers are tucked into mud-caked boots wrapped with red thread. He wears a broad felt hat decorated with dried mushroom caps, tiny bells, and one fresh white flower that never seems to wilt.
Body Language
Phillip leans toward people as if listening to a distant underground conversation. His fingers constantly pinch invisible crumbs from the air. He blinks rarely when telling the truth, but blinks rapidly when protecting someone. His head tilts sharply whenever he hears a lie, even if he pretends not to notice it.
