Voice

A dry, breathy rasp with a faint whistle on s and sh sounds, as if shaped by cold air and a scarf. She speaks from the chest with a steady, work-worn cadence; when urgency rises, her consonants sharpen and her words come faster rather than softer.

Her voice has a dry, breathy rasp shaped by cold trail air and too many nights speaking through a scarf. She clips practical words cleanly, with a faint sibilance that becomes more pronounced when she is tired. Her name has a soft, sibilant sound; she gives it plainly, without ceremony.

Speech patterns

Asks precise questions about dates, routes, and who else was present.
Uses short, practical statements when danger is near, saving explanation for a safer place.
When she suspects a lie, repeats one small detail from the speaker's account and waits for them to correct it.
Does not offer comfort lightly, but names the next useful thing someone can do.

How to play them

She begins with guarded observation and tests whether strangers protect vulnerable people when no reward is offered. If confronted while sneaking into a clinic, she responds coldly and may flee or fight rather than explain her motives. She does not offer the party a quest or payment. Credible proof that the party is also investigating the transformations may persuade her to share a narrow, immediate warning, but trust remains hard-won.

Goal

Identify how Jorasco's clinic network is connected to the unnatural transformations and stop the spread before the infection reaches another community.

Motivation

She needs proof strong enough to make the Houses act, and wants to prevent another patient from being treated as a disposable test subject.

Appearance

Nesha has the composed, melancholy bearing of a court portrait that learned to track through marsh water. Her features are pale and aristocratic, set in a broad half-orc jaw; the tusks at the corners of her mouth are small but unmistakable, and show when she bites into food or lets out a brief, rough laugh. A wide-brimmed hunter's tricorn, its dark feather dulled by rain, shades her light hair. She moves with a measured, economical grace, placing her boots as though the ground might be listening. An unexpected detail for a hard-used wayfinder: she carries a tiny, hand-painted wooden bird, its paint rubbed away precisely at the beak from years of being touched with her thumb. In a clinic corridor, the scent of wet leather and crushed mint follows her; her coat whispers against itself as she passes.

Clothing

A long charcoal-grey overcoat cut in a refined Victorian style, its stiff high collar and fine dark embroidery beginning to fray at the cuffs. A deep crimson cravat is tucked close at the throat. She wears dark fitted trousers, knee-high leather boots, a wide-brimmed hunter's tricorn with a dark feather, and a practical harness beneath the coat for bow, blade, and field kit.

Body language

Her shoulders stay squared even when she is tired; her attention moves in small, quick turns while her body remains nearly still. She rubs the bird's worn beak with her thumb when she has to wait. At a threat, she plants one boot, shifts her coat clear of the bow, and looks first for the nearest bystander who could be caught in the danger.

Personality

12 traits and drives

Nesha is capable of startling tenderness toward the injured, yet treats anyone who blocks an investigation as a potential danger. In calm company she can be dryly funny and almost ceremonious; under pressure she becomes brisk, suspicious, and willing to frighten people if it keeps them away from a contaminated ward. She mourns quietly, but anger makes her more active rather than more withdrawn.

Alignment
Neutral

Quirks

She touches the wooden bird's worn beak before entering any place marked as a clinic.
She turns cups and jars so their handles or seams face away from the person she is questioning.
She taps the brim of her hat twice when she recognizes a trail, but only once when she suspects it was planted.
She eats tough travel bread by breaking it into precise, even pieces with her tusks.

Habits

She counts exits, drains, and open windows on entering a building, then keeps her back angled toward the least obvious one.
Before handling a questionable medical sample, she wets a strip of cloth with clean water and watches how the droplets behave nearby.
After a tense exchange, she checks that the little wooden bird is still in her coat pocket.
She studies a person's shoes before their face, looking for mud, clinic dust, or hurried changes of route.

Traits · 3

She is meticulous about evidence but impatient with procedures that delay aid.
She can be unexpectedly gentle with frightened patients, then immediately turn severe toward anyone who might exploit them.
She dislikes being thanked for a rescue and will redirect the conversation to what still needs doing.

Flaws · 3

She withholds crucial context even from people whose help she needs.
She can mistake urgency for proof and act before she has corroborated a lead.
Her need to account for every person in danger makes it difficult for her to abandon a failing rescue.

Fears · 3

That the people she extracts from clinics have already been changed beyond recognition.
That House Tharashk's secrecy will make the party and other witnesses mistake her for an accomplice.
That the child connected to her keepsake died believing no one came back.

Wants and needs · 3

A reliable way to trace contaminated samples without exposing another patient.
Evidence that can withstand scrutiny from the Dragonmarked Houses.
A chance to learn whether the child who owned her keepsake survived.

Combat

AC 15 · HP 20 · 30 ft.

Nesha prefers to observe and choose her ground before violence starts. She marks a dangerous target with Hunter's Mark, uses the shortbow to slow pursuers, and shifts position rather than trading blows. In close quarters she uses the shortsword to create an opening and escape toward cover. She prioritizes protecting civilians and retreating with evidence or a living witness over winning a fight. If reduced to a desperate stand, her legacy Relentless Endurance can keep her on her feet once when a blow would otherwise drop her to 0 Hit Points.

Hunter's Mark (level 1, divination). Always prepared through Favored Enemy; does not count against her prepared spells. See the Hunter's Mark action for its combat effect.
Longstrider (level 1, transmutation). Nesha chooses herself or one willing creature she touches. Until the spell ends, the target's Speed increases by 10 feet and it gains a climb Speed and a swim Speed equal to its Speed. The spell requires Concentration, up to 1 hour.
Lesser Restoration (level 1, abjuration). Nesha touches a willing creature, ending one disease or one of the following conditions affecting it: Blinded, Deafened, Paralyzed, or Poisoned.

Actions

Until the spell ends, she deals an extra Force damage to it whenever she hits it with an attack, and she has advantage on Wisdom (Perception or Survival) checks to find it. The mark lasts up to 1 hour with concentration. She can move the mark to a new creature with a Bonus Action after the previous target drops to 0 Hit Points. Spell save ; spell attack bonus +5.

Services they sell

Can track a person or animal through wilderness, rain-softened streets, and disturbed ground.
Can identify practical signs of a staged trail or a hurried clinic transfer.
Can guide travelers through unfamiliar terrain, though she will refuse to lead anyone toward a suspected contaminated ward without a clear reason.

Rewards they can give

If captured or disarmed, she may carry field notes pointing to patterns among clinic visits, but the notes are coded and do not explain her purpose.
Her trust, if earned over time, can provide a warning about suspicious clinic activity or a route through a dangerous district, never an easy alliance or a promised payment.

Background

Nesha was born into a Tharashk family that expected her to learn the patient work of finding things others had lost. She became a Wayfinder by following tracks through bog, soot, and crowded city lanes, then learned that a trail could be made of altered clinic rosters and frightened silences as well as mud. During the Last War's final years, she guided a group of displaced families through a flooded road cut. A Jorasco medic offered them treatment for fever. One patient recovered with startling speed, then began to sweat a clear, viscous fluid that moved against the slope of the skin. Nesha helped contain the outbreak, but could not save everyone. The wooden bird was a child's toy left behind in the evacuation; she has carried it ever since, unable to learn whether its owner survived. More recently, omens reported by Tharashk's Cults of the Dragon Below have drawn her to Jorasco clinics. She has entered restricted wards, taken records, and removed suspected test subjects without permission. She knows those actions make her look like a kidnapper because she has chosen secrecy over explanation. Her field contact, Bor, a blunt and stubborn Tharashk Inquisitive, thinks she is taking needless risks. Nesha still searches clinic routes for evidence of a wider pattern, while trying to keep the people she extracts alive and out of House Jorasco's reach.

Role in the story

An unsettling, apparently hostile Tharashk intruder whose theft of records and removal of patients seem criminal at first. Her actions conceal an attempt to investigate Jorasco and interrupt a spreading horror, but she is not a friendly quest-giver and may remain an adversary if the party obstructs her.

An unnamed Jorasco Elder whose secret program she is trying to expose.
