Foreman Torrin Anvilwright
Species
Mountain Dwarf
Appearance
Foreman Torrin Anvilwright is a compact, broad-shouldered mountain dwarf whose body has the dense, battered look of a tool chest that has survived too many cave-ins. His skin is dark copper beneath layers of permanent soot, with old heat scars puckering his forearms, neck, and the left side of his jaw. A dense brown beard hangs to his belt in three heavy braids, each braid threaded with brass washers stamped with the names of dead workers. His protective welder's goggles usually rest on his greasy brow, leaving pale circles around his tired gray-green eyes. He moves with a slow, rolling gait that suggests chronic pain, but becomes startlingly quick whenever a machine malfunctions or someone is in danger. His hands are thick, calloused, and crosshatched with tiny burn marks, yet he handles delicate clockwork with a surgeon's precision. The unexpected contradiction is his immaculate left thumbnail, polished every morning because it belonged to his daughter and was the last part of her that the rescue crews recovered from a furnace collapse.
“A gravelly baritone worn rough by furnace smoke, usually clipped and economical. He speaks more softly when furious and slips into old dwarven work chants when concentrating.”

Distinguishing Features
Three beard braids threaded with brass washers bearing the names of dead workers
A permanent pale ring around each eye from years of wearing welding goggles
A left thumbnail kept polished while the rest of his hands remain scarred and grimy
A burn scar on his jaw shaped like a branching gear tooth
A missing tip on his right ear replaced by a tiny hinged brass cap
Voice
“Low, smoke-roughened, and measured, with the resonant undertone of someone accustomed to shouting over machinery without actually shouting”
Clothing
A heavy fire-resistant canvas work-harness reinforced with overlapping blackened brass plates, steel-toed boots, a stained undershirt, a patched guild coat, heatproof gloves, a tool belt crowded with precision instruments, and a red inspection scarf worn beneath his beard
Body Language
Torrin stands like a support pillar, feet planted wide and shoulders angled toward the nearest hazard. He folds his arms when hearing corporate excuses, taps his thumb against his wedding ring when lying, and presses two fingers to nearby machinery as though taking its pulse. When someone mentions Brunna, his posture becomes perfectly still.
