Species

Appearance
Toro is a bald, blind human elder with a narrow face, high cheekbones, and a silver-white beard clipped close to the jaw. His skin is weathered like old cedar, marked by thin sword scars that cross his throat, knuckles, and left cheek. He moves with unnerving economy, never reaching for balance and never seeming to hurry. His unexpected softness is his hands, which are broad, carefully moisturized, and gentle enough to mend a bird's broken wing. He leaves people with the impression that a door has quietly shut behind them.
“Low, dry, and unhurried. Toro speaks as though every sentence has weight and must be set down carefully.”

Distinguishing Features
Clouded white eyes with no visible pupils.
A narrow scar running from his left temple to the corner of his mouth.
Three missing fingertips on his right hand, replaced by smooth bronze caps.
A faint smell of cedar oil, cold stone, and plum tea.
A tiny bronze bell stitched inside his collar, audible only when he bows.
Voice
“A gravel-soft baritone with the faint rasp of cold air in the lungs. He sometimes hums one note before answering, as though tuning himself to the speaker.”
Clothing
Deep purple robes layered over a sleeveless, lacquered cuirass. The fabric is patched with plum-colored thread and weighted at the hems with tiny bronze bells whose clappers have been removed. He wears split-toe mountain sandals, leather wrist wraps, and a plain cord around his neck.
Body Language
Toro stands with his feet slightly offset, as if perpetually prepared to turn on ice. His chin tilts toward voices, his fingers rest lightly against the odachi's scabbard, and his blind eyes remain lowered. When someone lies, he gently taps the floor once with his heel.
