Verna Gear-Grasp
Species
Rock Gnome
Appearance
Verna Gear-Grasp is a very old rock gnome whose movements remain unnervingly precise. Her silver hair is braided into a compact crown, pinned with six polished brass teeth that click softly when she turns her head. Her narrow face carries the dry texture of parchment around the eyes, while her small hands are marked by chemical burns, embedded graphite, and permanent black crescents beneath the nails. She walks with a measured administrative pace, neither hurried nor hesitant, and her armor hums beneath her robes like a distant engine. She is meticulously dressed, yet one sleeve is always rolled to the elbow, revealing a crude surgical seam of copper wire beneath the skin. The unexpected contradiction is her smile, warm, almost grandmotherly, appearing most often when she is ordering someone into mortal danger.
“Measured and low, with clipped consonants and a faint Azim market cadence. She speaks as though every sentence were being entered into a ledger, pausing before key words such as 'cost,' 'survival,' and 'choice.”

Distinguishing Features
Six brass hairpins shaped like tiny interlocking teeth.
A copper surgical seam beneath her left sleeve, warm to the touch.
A pair of wire-rimmed bifocals with one lens etched in moving calibration marks.
Her armor emits a faint scent of hot rain, machine oil, and bitter mushroom tea.
She smiles at the worst possible moments, usually when a plan has become dangerous enough to work.
Voice
“A dry contralto with surprising warmth, like a kettle beginning to sing beneath the rumble of deep machinery.”
Clothing
Deep navy formal guild robes of heavy canvas, reinforced at the elbows and knees with dark leather, edged in subtle copper piping. Beneath them she wears articulated arcane armor, a fitted brass-and-blacksteel exosuit with vented shoulder plates, magnetic tool loops, and a shield emitter built into the left forearm.
Body Language
Verna keeps her shoulders square and her chin slightly lowered, as if inspecting a blueprint spread across the floor. She taps two fingers against her brass wrist housing while calculating, presses her thumb to her lower lip when suppressing anger, and touches the copper seam beneath her sleeve whenever someone mentions the Black Lung Winter.
