Valma Copper-Weave
Artificer (Battle Smith) 7 / Fighter 2
Valma Copper-Weave
Species
Dwarf, Kharbal lineage
Appearance
Valma is an elderly Kharbal dwarf woman whose compact frame has the dense, load-bearing sturdiness of a bridge pier. Her copper-brown skin is creased like worked leather around a pair of sharp gray eyes that rarely look at a face when they could be studying its hinges, weight distribution, or hidden supports. Silver-streaked hair is pulled into a severe knot, while her neatly braided beard is interwoven with fine copper wire rings that click softly when she turns her head. She moves with deliberate economy, never wasting a step, yet her hands can become startlingly fast when making an adjustment. Her expression is severe enough to intimidate officials twice her height, but she laughs with an unexpectedly bright, youthful cackle when someone presents an elegant repair. The contradictory impression she leaves is of a person built like an immovable foundation who is nevertheless always listening for the next tremor.
“Her voice is low, dry, and rasping, with the controlled rhythm of a metronome. She speaks in compact technical phrases, pauses to test the listener's understanding, and becomes more formal when furious.”

Distinguishing Features
Copper wire rings woven through her beard click together when she moves.
Her left thumb bears a permanent black stain from arcane graphite and never fully cleans.
She carries a runic caliper large enough to measure the thickness of a sword blade.
A thin vertical scar runs from her left temple to her jaw, left by falling masonry during the Collapse of Nine Shelves.
Rivet's chest contains a fragment of the original failed supervisory engine, which emits a faint ticking when danger is near.
Voice
“A low, dry contralto with a rasping edge, precise diction, and the occasional bright cackle of genuine delight”
Clothing
A heavy utilitarian coat of charcoal wool and treated leather, meticulously lined with exposed networks of copper wire. The coat is fastened with smooth polished volcanic glass buttons that catch dim subterranean light. She wears reinforced work trousers, steel-capped boots, a tool belt, fingerless gloves, and a red inspection sash bearing Kharbal's old foundation mark.
Body Language
Valma stands with her feet planted wide and her shoulders square, constantly testing the floor through her boots. She touches her beard when calculating risk, taps metal surfaces in rhythmic groups of three, and angles her body toward exits and support columns even during friendly conversations.
