Jareth Cole
Species
Human
Appearance
Jareth is a lean, sharp-eyed human man whose sun-weathered face looks carved from dry river clay. His hands are quick and narrow, with callused fingertips, bitten nails, and permanent black ink worked into the creases of his knuckles. He moves with the quiet economy of someone accustomed to crossing sleeping camps, narrow ledges, and machinery floors without disturbing a single loose stone. His expression is usually alert but restrained, as if every conversation is being measured against an invisible timetable. The unexpected contradiction is his smile, which is broad, warm, and almost boyish when it appears, making his otherwise severe face briefly seem harmless.
“His voice is low, clipped, and unusually clear, with the careful rhythm of a clerk reading figures aloud. When angry, he becomes more formal.”

Distinguishing Features
Permanent black ink stains dust his cuffs, knuckles, and the side of his right index finger.
A pale, branching scar crosses his left ribs from the Red Spill collapse.
His left ear is notched from a patrol hound's bite.
He wears a brass surveyor's pin turned upside down, the former emblem of his old employer.
His courier's cloak is patched with tiny pieces of fabric from settlements that no longer exist.
Voice
“A restrained baritone with a dry edge, softened only when speaking to children, injured couriers, or people who have just returned from a dangerous route.”
Clothing
A dark, weather-proof courier's cloak hangs over reinforced travel leathers stitched with dull green thread. Multiple metal map tubes cross his back and hip, waterproof leather-bound ledgers are secured beneath his left arm, and a concealed signal whistle rests across his chest beneath a strip of waxed cloth. His boots are soft-soled and fitted with replaceable climbing hooks. Every buckle has been filed smooth to prevent noise.
Body Language
Jareth keeps his shoulders slightly angled toward the nearest exit and constantly rolls a sealing ring between his fingers. When relaxed, he leans against walls rather than sitting. When angry, he becomes unnaturally still, with only his ink-stained thumb moving against the edge of a ledger.
