Grounder-Twelve
Species
Tectonic Forged, Star-Sand Calibrated
Appearance
Grounder-Twelve stands nearly seven feet tall, carved from dense slate and quartz whose surfaces are matte, grainy, and cool enough to bead condensation in warm tunnels. Heavy copper grounding spikes rise from both shoulders like blunt mineral antlers, each threaded with fine cables that tremble before a leyline surge. A pale-blue Star-Sand core glows behind a ribbed chest aperture, brightening with every nearby spell. Their hands are broad and carefully jointed, with quartz fingertips polished smooth by years of gripping ropes, hammering pitons, and hauling wounded divers from collapsing shafts. They move with startling patience, placing each foot as though the mountain itself were listening. The unexpected softness is in their gestures: Grounder-Twelve handles frightened miners, fragile relics, and even hostile creatures with the delicacy of a jeweler.
“Low, resonant, and carefully paced, with each word carrying a faint metallic aftertone. Their voice becomes almost inaudible when discussing the dead, forcing listeners to lean closer.”

Distinguishing Features
Three copper grounding spikes on each shoulder vibrate audibly when magic is cast nearby.
A pale-blue Star-Sand core glows through the chest in slow pulses, like a patient mechanical heartbeat.
Their quartz fingertips are polished to a glassy sheen from years of rope work and relic handling.
A narrow line of darker slate runs from the back of the neck to the left heel, the visible seam of their original assembly.
They carry a slate memorial tile for every crew member lost under their protection.
Voice
“A deep, restrained contralto with the vibration of stone under pressure and the faint crackle of distant static”
Clothing
A sleeveless charcoal surveyor's mantle hangs from copper rings at the collar, layered over a harness of climbing straps, ceramic insulation plates, and faded red cord. Their lower legs are wrapped in ash-gray canvas guards, while a weatherproof hood is usually folded beneath one shoulder spike.
Body Language
Grounder-Twelve occupies more space than they realize, often standing in doorways or bracing one hand against a wall while listening. Around frightened people, they lower their shoulders and fold their arms inward to seem smaller. Around Kettledrift Circle agents, their stance becomes an immovable triangle, feet planted wide, chest core fully visible.
