Sorvanus Runsea

Level 18·Male·Medium
Lawful neutral with protective, increasingly humanitarian instincts

Species

Human

Appearance

Sorvanus is a broad-shouldered man whose formal bearing cannot quite conceal the exhaustion of a household held together by constant effort. His medium-length black hair is thick, slightly wavy, and usually pushed behind his ears with impatient fingers. He wears close-cropped stubble that grows unevenly along his jaw because he shaves between meetings rather than at regular times. His hands are unexpectedly rough, with ink caught beneath his nails and pale calluses across his palms from sword drills, reins, and hauling crates during the winter famine. He moves with the economical precision of a trained officer, but when distracted he walks too quickly and clips the edges of furniture with his coat. He gives the impression of a man who has just left a war council to check whether someone remembered to salt the soup. The contradiction is striking: his posture is imperial and commanding, while his expression often has the worried softness of a father listening for a child's cough.

Height6 feet 2 inches
BuildTall and powerfully built, with the dense frame of a soldier who still trains despite years of court obligations
EyesDeep hazel with green flecks, usually narrowed in concentration
HairBlack, thick, and lightly wavy
SkinOlive skin weathered by sea wind, cold rain, and long hours outdoors

His voice is low, breathy, and carefully controlled, with a soft rasp at the end of certain words. He takes a quiet inhalation before formal statements and tends to soften sibilants into a faint coastal hiss.”

Distinguishing Features

A bronze Runsea signet ring has worn a permanent greenish stain into the skin at the base of his right thumb.

His coat smells faintly of cedar oil, lamp smoke, and sea salt.

He pauses for one deliberate breath before speaking in formal situations, as if arranging his thoughts into ranks.

A thin line of white pigment marks the inside of his left wrist, a private mourning custom for his brother.

His stern public expression collapses instantly when he hears a child laughing nearby.

Voice

Low, composed, breathy, and faintly rasping, with a rolling Caucasian and Celtic cadence beneath precise court diction

Clothing

He wears a dark navy wool coat modeled after an ancient legionary commander's paludamentum, fastened at one shoulder with a bronze sea-horse clasp. Beneath it are a high-collared cream tunic, fitted charcoal trousers, polished riding boots, and a narrow red sash bearing the Runsea knot. His armor is concealed beneath the coat rather than displayed, because he considers overt protection an insult to the dignity of office. At formal events he adds a heavy bronze torque, though he dislikes the way it pulls at his collar.

Body Language

Sorvanus keeps his hands folded behind his back when listening, but his right thumb repeatedly rubs the edge of his signet ring. He inclines his head slightly toward people of lower status, a habit learned from watching his late brother. When someone mentions Tavren, his shoulders square and his breath pauses before he answers. In danger, he becomes almost motionless, as if every part of him has been ordered to wait.
