Carnival Steward

Lawful Neutral

Species

Appearance

Mr. Witch is a narrow, dignified man with a face like a well-kept wooden mask, all clean planes, fine creases, and an expression that seems permanently prepared to hear bad news. He moves with deliberate economy, never hurrying unless the carnival itself is in danger. His hands are elegant but rough at the fingertips from years of repairing clockwork attractions and handling wagon ropes. He smells faintly of cedar oil, rain-damp canvas, and burnt sugar. His immaculate posture contradicts the disorder of his wagon, where papers, coins, costume pieces, and half-repaired curiosities spill across every surface. When he is angry, his shadow becomes slightly taller than he is.

Height6 feet 1 inch
BuildTall, spare, and wiry, with the compact strength of someone accustomed to climbing rigging and hauling canvas
EyesDark amber with fine radial lines resembling the face of a clock
HairIron gray, combed flat at the sides and threaded with a single black streak
SkinWarm brown with a weathered bronze undertone and a pale scar crossing the right cheek

His voice is low, dry, and carefully paced, with crisp consonants and a faint highland cadence. He sounds like a man reading a formal notice beside a campfire, but softens noticeably when speaking to children, animals, or broken machines.”

Distinguishing Features

A faint ticking can sometimes be heard beneath his ribs, even when no watch is visible.

His left thumb is stained permanently blue from handling enchanted carnival ink.

His shadow occasionally points toward the nearest exit instead of matching his posture.

A tiny brass butterfly is embedded in one of his front teeth.

When he smiles sincerely, one corner of his mouth lifts much later than the other.

Voice

A restrained baritone with a dry, precise rhythm, softened by old affection and sharpened by suspicion

Clothing

A charcoal frock coat with narrow tails, a plum waistcoat embroidered with tiny brass gears, a high cream collar, polished boots, and a battered violet hat whose brim has been repaired with gold thread. He wears a silver chain that disappears beneath his vest and connects to an empty watch pocket.

Body Language

He stands straight with both hands resting over the head of his cane. He turns his whole body instead of merely his head, like a clockwork figure mounted on a hidden track. When someone lies, one finger begins tapping softly against his cane.
