Pip Ledger-Claw
Rogue, Inquisitive
Pip Ledger-Claw
Species
Cinderclaw, Hoard-Warden
Appearance
Pip is a compact ash-grey cinderclaw with a broad wedge-shaped head, fine charcoal scales, and a belly plated in pale mineral scutes that rasp softly against his harness when he moves. His limbs are wiry rather than muscular, built for climbing rigging, slipping between stacked crates, and vanishing beneath a wagon bed. He walks with a quick, deliberate side-step that makes his belt charms chime before he speaks. Unexpectedly, his claws are immaculately polished and painted with tiny white tally marks. He smells faintly of lamp oil, hot iron, and sugared ginger, a scent he insists comes from the docks and not from the ginger sweets hidden in his cheek pouches.
“His voice is quick, dry, and surprisingly soft, with a faint rasp like grit sliding across metal. He pronounces names with careful respect but stretches the final word of a sentence when he suspects a lie.”

Voice
“A low, papery rasp with careful pauses, like a clerk reading a verdict beside a roaring furnace”
Clothing
A soot-brown fitted coat beneath a heavy leather inspection harness, reinforced knee wraps, split-toed dock boots, and a broad belt hung with magnifying loupes, wax seals, tax ledgers, mineral chisels, chalk, lock picks, and tiny brass weights
Body Language
Pip pauses before every answer and draws one careful breath through his nose, as if sampling the truth from the air. His head tilts toward small noises, his tail makes precise tapping patterns against the floor, and his claws hover over his belt whenever a conversation turns toward the Basalt Bench. When relaxed, he curls around his ledger like a sleeping cat. When angry, he becomes very still except for the slow closing of one claw at a time.
