Appearance
Eldra is a tall, weather-beaten woman whose presence seems to lower the temperature of a room. Her skin has the dry, fine texture of parchment despite the constant dampness around her, and tiny grains of black sand collect in the creases of her knuckles. Her hands are the first thing people notice: broad-palmed, rope-burned, and permanently darkened beneath the nails by ink, tar, and old salt. She moves with the careful rolling balance of someone still standing on a deck in rough water, even on solid ground. Her hair hangs in thick silver ropes that drift slightly when there is no wind. She dresses like a mourning captain, but her coat is lined with bright yellow sailcloth, an almost cheerful contradiction beneath the solemn exterior. She leaves people with the impression that they have just remembered a song they never learned.
“A low contralto with a measured sailor's cadence. Her ordinary speech is husky and intimate, while her pact magic produces a second voice beneath it, like someone singing from the bottom of a well.”

Distinguishing Features
Black sand gathers beneath her fingernails and spills from her sleeves after she uses pact magic.
Her silver hair moves as though underwater, even in still rooms.
She carries a brass tuning fork that produces no audible tone, yet nearby ghosts react whenever she strikes it.
Her boots contain tiny bells that remain silent during movement but ring once whenever she tells a deliberate lie.
The bright yellow lining of her otherwise funeral-black coat flashes whenever she turns, like a hidden signal flag.
Voice
“Low, smoky, and intimate, with a musical undertow. When the pact speaks through her, a second voice harmonizes half a heartbeat late.”
Clothing
A salt-stiff black captain's coat lined with bright yellow sailcloth, a high-collared gray blouse, tar-dark trousers, sea-green wool socks, and heavy boots filled with tiny brass bells that never ring while she walks. A necklace of ship buttons rests at her throat.
Body Language
She keeps one hand near the brass tuning fork at her belt and unconsciously taps rhythms against her opposite wrist. When listening, she tilts her head as if trying to hear through a bulkhead. In anger, she becomes perfectly still, while the air around her begins to mist.
