The Bell of Nowhere
Species
Goliath
Appearance
The Bell of Nowhere is a towering goliath whose presence seems to press the air flat around them. Their slate-gray skin is roughened by mountain wind, ash, and years spent hauling bells through abandoned passes, with pale weather lines radiating from their knuckles and elbows. Their jaw is broad and powerful, and their square teeth have been capped with thin disks of tarnished silver that flash whenever they laugh or bite into food. They chew slowly, noisily, and with the solemn concentration of a priest at prayer. Their black hair is braided into seven heavy cords, each threaded with a different scrap of funeral cloth. They move with improbable quiet for someone so large, placing each foot as if testing whether the world still exists beneath it. The unexpected contradiction is their hands: huge, callused, and strong enough to bend iron, yet they are almost obsessively gentle with cups, feathers, children's toys, and musical instruments.
“Low, deliberate, and strangely intimate, as if every sentence is being spoken beside a deathbed. The Bell uses silence as punctuation and can make a whisper carry across a crowded hall.”

Distinguishing Features
Silver-capped square teeth that glint when they eat or laugh.
Seven thick hair braids threaded with funeral cloth from places where crowds vanished.
A brass shoulder plate shaped like an open ear, polished obsessively despite the rest of their worn clothing.
Their footsteps are unnaturally quiet, while small objects near them sometimes vibrate without being touched.
When they are deeply focused, faint circular ripples appear in dust, steam, or falling rain around their head.
Voice
“A deep resonant voice with a soft rasp beneath it, like bronze dragged across stone. When using magic, the Bell's words arrive with a second delayed echo that speaks in a language no living listener recognizes.”
Clothing
A sleeveless charcoal coat made from layered funeral banners hangs to the ankles, its hem weighted with small lead disks. Beneath it they wear a smoke-blue wool tunic, broad leather trousers, and wrapped mountain boots. A belt of knotted cords circles their waist, each knot representing a silence they have investigated. Their left shoulder bears a polished brass plate shaped like an open ear.
Body Language
The Bell keeps their shoulders lowered and their arms loose, appearing almost sleepy until someone nearby becomes afraid. Then their posture rises in stages, like a tower being assembled, and their fingers begin tapping invisible rhythms against their thighs. They rarely point. Instead, they turn their entire torso toward whatever deserves attention.
