Appearance
Dagna Pell has the compact, weather-tempered presence of someone who has spent decades standing between trouble and the people paying to avoid it. Her cream-colored skin is lightly freckled across the bridge of her nose and forearms, and her dark hair is braided into two precise ropes threaded with silver. Her dark amber eyes rarely settle on a face for more than a second, instead measuring hands, doorways, pockets, and the distance between a drunk and a bottle. Her hands are broad-knuckled and permanently roughened by hot glass, split wood, lye soap, and years of carrying full kegs, yet her fingers can turn a ledger page without making a sound. She moves with a quiet sideways economy, always leaving herself a route around a chair. The unexpected thing about her is that she looks severe until she laughs, at which point her whole face becomes startlingly young and open, almost girlish, before the guarded half-smile returns.
“Low, clear, and unhurried. She speaks as though every sentence is being entered into a ledger, with a faint frontier lilt and occasional old freight-camp phrasing.”

Distinguishing Features
Her hands smell faintly of coffee grounds, gun oil, and orange peel, a combination she assumes no one notices.
Her brass handbell has a hairline crack that makes its ring sound like a distant bird call.
She braids one short silver cord into her hair every morning, then removes it before sleep.
She can identify most patrons by the rhythm of their footsteps on the tavern's warped floorboards.
A tiny brass button shaped like a sun is sewn inside her left cuff, where she touches it when deciding whether to trust someone.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry rasp from years of smoke, dust, and calling orders over crowded rooms. When she is truly amused, the rasp vanishes and her voice becomes unexpectedly warm.”
Clothing
A dark burgundy vest over a cream rolled-sleeve blouse, a layered leather apron marked by old flour dust and faint oil stains, practical charcoal trousers, weathered ankle boots, brass keys at her belt, and several subtle hidden pistol details worked into the vest seams. Her clothing is neat without being delicate, and every loose cord has been cut away.
Body Language
One hand often rests beside the small brass handbell while the other grips a ledger or polishes an already-clean glass. She angles her shoulders toward exits, tilts her chin when testing a lie, and stands perfectly still when angry. Her smile is usually a narrow crescent that says she has noticed more than she intends to reveal.
