Appearance
Mara is a sun-browned human woman with honey-blonde hair bleached nearly white at the ends by years of salt and glare. Her hair is usually tied in a loose sailor's knot, though wind constantly pulls strands across her face. Light olive skin carries a spray of freckles across her nose and cheeks, along with old rope burns at both wrists and a pale scar that cuts through her left eyebrow. She moves with a rolling, economical balance, as if the floor is always tilting beneath her. Her smile is warm enough to invite trust, but her stillness before violence is unnervingly complete. The contradiction is in her hands: broad, callused, and stained with gunpowder, yet careful enough to mend a torn gull's wing.
“Her voice is low, bright, and lightly roughened by salt air. She speaks quickly when giving orders and slowly when making threats.”

Distinguishing Features
A white scar through her left eyebrow
Freckles clustered densely across her nose like spilled pepper
A brass ring worn on a cord around her neck, containing a pinch of sand from her burned village
A habit of keeping one bright yellow ribbon tied around her wrist
Her left canine tooth is capped in silver
Her shadow sometimes appears to sway like rigging even when the light is still
Voice
“A contralto with a smoky edge, capable of turning from warm amusement to command without raising volume”
Clothing
A rich blue sailing coat with tarnished silver buttons, a high-collared cream shirt, a wine-red sash, fitted black trousers, sea-soft leather boots, and a broad-brimmed hat patched with pieces of old signal flags. Her cutlass and pistol hang at her hips, while a brass spyglass is tucked inside her coat.
Body Language
Mara stands with one boot slightly angled for balance, even on solid ground. She rests two fingers on the pommel of her cutlass when listening and touches the brim of her hat when making a promise. During danger, she becomes almost motionless except for her eyes. When genuinely amused, she leans forward and laughs into her knuckles as though trying not to frighten the room.
