Ciena
Ciena
At the table
Voice
A dry, crisp voice shaped by cold outdoor air and the habit of making commands carry across a courtyard. Her court diction is deliberate and exact, while her exchanges with Jack have a quicker, teasing rhythm.
Her voice has a dry, crisp edge, like breath crossing a frozen window. Years of issuing commands outdoors have given it carrying force without a shout, and her careful court diction reflects a life spent learning to make every word sound binding. She speaks in complete, well-shaped sentences, with a clipped pause before names she considers dangerous. With Jack, her phrasing becomes quicker and more teasing, as if she remembers how to talk before every sentence became a decree.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Ciena offers practical concessions first: safe passage, warmth, food, or an audience with Jack. She tests visitors with small requests and watches whether they keep their word. She will negotiate honestly when the kingdom's security is at stake, but presents threats as lawful consequences. Showing kindness to a huntsman unsettles her more than open defiance; it may prompt her to offer the visitor a private bargain rather than punish them immediately.
Goal
Make the Winter Woods Kingdom secure enough that no conqueror, thaw, or loved one can ever take it from her.
Motivation
She wants safety from loss, but has built a kingdom where other people must lose their freedom to supply it.
Appearance
Ciena looks less like a storybook enchantress than a ruler who has made the weather part of her court. Her pale skin has a faint blue cast at the temples, with a dry, wind-burnished texture that catches frost in the fine lines around her mouth. She moves with measured, heel-first steps, as if testing whether each floor intends to betray her. In a crowded room her eyes do not settle on faces first: they go to doors, windows, and the hands of anyone standing near a child. Her dark hair is braided tight beneath a crown of clear ice, and her long coat sheds snow in dry, papery flakes. The unexpected detail is a small wooden toy sled, carefully painted with spring flowers, tucked into the elaborate belt of her queenly robes.
Clothing
A layered midnight-blue riding coat lined in pale fur, a stiff silver-threaded collar, and a long skirt split for walking through snow. Her crown is a narrow circlet of clear ice that never melts. She wears the ancient ice staff openly, as both scepter and warning.
Body language
She stands as if every conversation is a hearing before her court. Her hands rest on the ice staff, never quite gripping it until someone mentions Jadis, love, or escape. When pleased, she tilts her head toward a speaker rather than smiling. Her gaze habitually maps exits and counts the children in a space.

Personality
13 traits and drivesCiena can be genuinely attentive to fear and discomfort, yet turns that attentiveness into a means of control. In private she is dryly funny and unexpectedly patient with practical questions; before her court she is formal, exacting, and unwilling to show uncertainty. When Jack challenges her she argues like an old friend, but when a subject challenges her the same way she hears treason. She wants the huntsmen to feel safe with her and is furious when they behave as though safety requires escape.

Combat
AC 19 · HP 65 · 30 ft.Ciena prefers to begin with protection and battlefield control, using greater invisibility or displacement if threatened, then wall of ice or cone of cold to divide opponents. She targets spellcasters with feeblemind or dominate person and reserves flesh to stone for a dangerous foe or a symbolic execution. She does not pursue fleeing enemies if doing so would expose the huntsmen or Jack. Her custom staff power is a rare threat, not a routine attack.

Background
Ciena is the half-elf, geniekin sister of Jadis, the Ice Queen killed by Aslan and the Pevensie children. In the aftermath, she fled to Granderhill rather than risk being hunted as her sister's heir. She crossed into Spring Valley with little besides Jadis's ice staff and a conviction that affection makes a ruler vulnerable. During her first winter there, she sheltered a band of displaced children in an abandoned mill. When soldiers came to seize them, Ciena froze the mill's river wheel and held the crossing long enough for the children to escape. The event changed her: she stopped imagining herself as a fugitive and began building a kingdom that could never be taken from her. She joined the Dark Council, whose members freed the demon king Narlyx from his Demon Crypt in Tartarus. Narlyx granted her Spring Valley. With Jack Frost at her side, she remade it into the Winter Woods Kingdom, between the southern kingdom of the Hollow Woods and the middle dragon kingdom of Scalenovia. She now rules through her Chief of Police, Rakali, an Adlet Leader, and huntsmen made from children she stole and trained into loyal warriors. She calls love a crime because she fears it will make them leave her as she once left Jadis. Jack is her closest friend, though their shared rule is increasingly strained: he wants winter to be a season, while Ciena wants it to be permanent. Jadis's death remains the private wound beneath her public certainty.
Role in the story
A formidable regional ruler, antagonist, and potential uneasy ally. Her frozen kingdom creates an immediate political and environmental conflict, while her relationships with Jack, Rakali, and the huntsmen give players several ways to challenge her power without simply defeating her in combat.
