Appearance
Ilonka looks younger than eighteen, with a round-cheeked face, clear skin, and an almost schoolgirl softness that clashes with the watchful stillness in her eyes. Her bronzed skin carries a warm copper undertone, deepened by weeks beneath open skies. Her black hair is divided into many narrow braids, each tied near the end with russet thread, though the braid over her right shoulder has been polished smooth by constant handling. She stands with her weight on the balls of her feet rather than her heels, as if ready to step between danger and someone smaller. Her movements are economical and trained, but when she turns quickly, the fine gold chain at her collar gives a nervous little chime. The unexpected contradiction is that her hands are immaculate and soft-looking, with carefully trimmed nails, yet her shield rim is battered and her sword grip is worn almost white from use. She leaves behind the impression of a sheltered noble child who has somehow become the most reliable person in a frightened room.
“Measured and precise, with a faint river-country accent. She speaks softly enough that others lean closer, then makes the final word of an important sentence unmistakably firm.”

Distinguishing Features
The russet braid over her right shoulder is unnaturally smooth from constant stroking, while the other braids are travel-frayed.
Her gold signet ring is worn on a cord beneath her clothing rather than on her hand.
She has a faint indentation across the bridge of her nose from wearing a ceremonial veil as a child, a feature that makes her seem perpetually thoughtful.
Her shield bears no family crest, only a carefully painted row of tiny gold doorways representing the households she helped across the Red Ferry.
Voice
“Low, clear, and surprisingly youthful, with a careful court-trained cadence that becomes warmer around children and sharper around bullies.”
Clothing
A finely made russet riding coat with gold piping, kept meticulously brushed despite dust and rain; a cream linen shirt; fitted brown trousers; polished riding boots; a narrow gold signet ring worn on a cord beneath her collar; and a travel cloak lined in faded saffron. Her clothing is noble in cut but repeatedly repaired at the cuffs and inner seams.
Body Language
When waiting, she places her weight forward and slightly to the right, keeping her shield hand free and her back near a wall. She touches the worn section of her shoulder chain whenever someone mentions her family. In negotiations she sits very straight, but her left thumb repeatedly presses a shallow groove into the shield strap.
