Marr Hollowcrown
Royal Adviser and Funerary Jurist
Marr Hollowcrown
Species
Grimling
Appearance
Marr Hollowcrown is a narrow, long-limbed Grimling whose movements are quiet enough to make rooms feel suddenly larger. His charcoal skin has a dry, velvety texture like cooled hearth ash, while faint silver lines show beneath it around his wrists and throat whenever necrotic magic is nearby. His face is sharp and solemn, softened by an unexpectedly gentle mouth that often looks moments away from apologizing. He does not scan faces when entering a room. His eyes go first to the exits, then to the hands of anyone present, and finally to the nearest unattended body, grave marker, or funerary object. A tiny brass reliquary is always chained beneath his collar, and the chain has worn a polished groove into the fabric at his left shoulder. Despite his severe official bearing, Marr has a habit of moving with the careful, almost domestic attentiveness of someone carrying a sleeping child. The contradiction is striking: he looks like an omen of death, yet people often feel safer when he stands beside them.
“Measured, low, and carefully articulated. Marr sounds like a clerk reading a verdict until emotion slips through in the final word of a sentence.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass reliquary hangs beneath his collar, and its chain has worn a bright groove into the left shoulder of his coat.
His eyes always check hands, exits, and funerary objects before meeting anyone's gaze.
A faint silver pattern appears beneath his skin near active necrotic magic.
His mourning cane bears hundreds of tiny engraved names, most of them nearly worn smooth.
He carries himself like a solemn magistrate but handles fragile objects with the tenderness of a nurse.
Voice
“A dry, resonant baritone with a faint rasp, like paper dragged across stone. When speaking to mourners, it becomes unexpectedly warm. When addressing nobles who have violated death-rights law, every syllable sounds polished and final.”
Clothing
A high-collared black adviser’s coat lined with faded crimson, polished bone buttons, a gray sash bearing the royal death-rights seal, fingerless wool gloves, soft-soled boots, and a weathered mourning cane capped with brass. His collar is always slightly crooked where the reliquary chain pulls against it.
Body Language
Marr keeps his shoulders slightly forward and both hands near his mourning cane. In tense rooms, one thumb rubs the brass reliquary beneath his collar. When someone speaks sincerely about grief, he becomes very still and turns his whole body toward them. When someone lies about the dead, his head tilts by a few degrees and his gaze drops to their hands.
