Skitch
Rogue, Inquisitive
Skitch
Species
Cinderclaw, Tunnel-Runner
Appearance
Skitch is a compact Cinderclaw with ash-black scales that shine like wet river stones beneath lamplight. His head is narrow and wedge-shaped, with small hornlets swept backward and a throat pouch that trembles whenever he listens. He moves in quick, economical bursts, then becomes utterly still, one claw lifted as though the air itself has spoken. A waterproof harness crosses his chest and hips, crowded with brass hydrophone bladders, waxed slate boards, tuning forks, knotted cords, and tiny ceramic weights. The object most people notice first is a battered brass listening bowl worn against his left ribs. Its rim is polished bright where his thumb has rubbed it thousands of times, while the bowl's underside is green with salt corrosion. Despite his small frame, Skitch takes up startling space in a conversation, leaning close enough for others to feel the faint vibration of his throat before he answers.
“Low, clipped, and deliberate, with long pauses while he listens to surrounding vibrations. His voice has a dry rasp beneath it, like grit sliding across slate.”

Distinguishing Features
A battered brass listening bowl is always worn against his left ribs, its rim polished bright by constant thumb pressure.
His throat pouch visibly trembles when he detects movement through a solid surface.
His tail is wrapped in four different colored signal cords, each representing a harbor zone he has personally mapped.
He carries a set of tuning forks whose handles are carved from black volcanic glass.
He leans close enough during conversation that strangers instinctively step backward.
Voice
“A dry, low rasp with carefully measured pauses, often accompanied by the faint metallic tick of tuning forks shifting in his harness.”
Clothing
A charcoal waterproof harness over a sleeveless salt-cloth tunic, reinforced knee wraps, soft split-toe harbor shoes, a hooded oilskin half-cloak, and several waxed slate boards secured beneath his left arm
Body Language
Skitch keeps his shoulders angled toward the nearest solid surface and rarely stands in the center of a room. His claws hover over his brass listening bowl whenever conversation turns political. When interested, he leans too close and tilts his head until one eye disappears behind the rim of his hood. When frightened, he becomes almost motionless except for the quick pulsing of his throat pouch.
